4chan will refuse to pay daily online safety fines, lawyer tells BBC
A lawyer representing the online message board 4chan says it won't pay a proposed fine by the UK's media regulator as it enforces the Online Safety Act.

According to Preston Byrne, managing partner of law firm Byrne & Storm, Ofcom has provisionally decided to impose a £20,000 fine "with daily penalties thereafter" for as long as the site fails to comply with its request.

"Ofcom's notices create no legal obligations in the United States," he told the BBC, adding he believed the regulator's investigation was part of an "illegal campaign of harassment" against US tech firms.

Ofcom has declined to comment while its investigation continues.
"4chan has broken no laws in the United States - my client will not pay any penalty," Mr Byrne said.

The stupid jannie just deletes these m8.
Because a foreign Government threatening to ban 4chan over a stupid tech law that has as much basis in factuality as Alice in Wonderland must somehow be 'non-tech related' and a /pol/ story, or someshit. That or some fucking halfwits keep complaining abut it.

So that's why I kept getting hash errors when trying to upload OP's image? fucking kek, how are they so threatened about this? nothing scares them that some meta talk, no matter how on-topic. They could release 4chan: The Video Game, developed by Hiro and Rapeape, and still ban discussion of it on /v/.

based, perhaps, but seems dumb. if you accidentally get diverted to Heathrow or some shit and you are an owner of one of these companies, your ass is going to get thoroughly raped. easier to just block UK users IMO.

The Brits will eventually geoblock 4chan.
4chan isn't like facebook or twitter, they aren't advertising locally so the brits don't have an avenue of attack/leverage against 4chan by going after they advertisement partnerships. They'll jump straight to geoblock.

This. UK can't really do shit to foreign company that no longer offers any services in their shitty cuntry.
>>106350236
Europoorean here. In case you didn't know, we are not some sort of authoritarian hivemind and just because UK tries to enforce their law onto foreign companies, it doesn't mean they have the power to tell other countries to arrest 4chan staff over something like that. This is definitely different than the Durov's arrest, since 4chan is not nearly as risky platform as Telegram, and the vast majority of cuntries in Europe don't give a fuck about 4chan, unlike with Telegram.

>Telegram
The gigantic difference is that Telegram was swarming with CP groups/channels, drug/weapon/fake ID services and the moderators did absolutely nothing about it.

After he was released they removed the Nearby feature which was being used almost exclusively by prostitutes and drug dealers, took moderation more seriously and now cooperates with the EU to remove illegal content (allegedly. Telegram is still full of illegal shit.)

What I'm saying that Telegram didn't catch the eye of regulators randomly, it was actively aiding illegal activities. 4chan isn't.
