Is there a lang that if somebody knows it, makes you instantly respect them?
Proper, good, through deep knowledge of C does it for me.

C is very based, but real Gs are people who do asm, reverse engineering etc

Real C++ proficiency is impossible to fake. Hats off to the handful that actually have the whole thing down.

I'm a straight up C guy myself, possibly within the demographics you'd be inclined respect, but some thing are just way too much.

I do not respect people by their language but their niche.
I only respect people who is able to translate papers with complicated math expressions and algorithms to production ready solutions.
the average retarded web developer is the same shit bragging about understanding the difference between concurrency , parallelism or meme-web apps while the real chads are implementing software for hardware accelerators like CUDA and npus or tpus.

prolog is not even hard, the issue is that many coders are involved on the spectrum of problems were prolog is king.
datalogs are still heavily used on neuro-symbolic systems

Any language as long as their code is designed and written so well it looks like a part of standard library.

a "language" is a syntax, that can be learned in a week at most
i have respect for people who can understand the business and negotiate well with stakeholders

Anyone with an undergraduate degree knows at least 10+ languages by the time they graduate, so no.

In the first half of my freshman year, I had to do Haskell, Assembly, C/C++, Java, R, and Python. I did the usual webshitter/appdev track in my spare time + MATLAB, Fortran, Lisp, and OCaml.

That's ~15 languages in the first few months.

>prolog is not even hard
>datalogs are
datalog is nothing like prolog. it's not even turing complete. nobody who knows prolog would ever equate the two. datalog doesn't even have complex terms, let alone dcgs, cuts, lists, modules, call, goal construction, operators, etc. why not equate json and javascript

clisp/elisp, C, asm, lua, perl
now how about some languages that will make me disrespect a person?
rust, JS, C#, java, haskell, python, erlang, nim, C++
i'm relatively neutral on go, zig, bash, ruby, and pascal (despite them being shit)
as for real languages,
i respect: german, russian, latin, italian, japanese, mandarin
i disrespect: hindi, arabic, hohol, polack, bri'ish (all dialects, but especially american 'english'), ivrit, yiddish, lashon hakodesh, any and all niggerbabble
i'm neutral on the rest, except i would hate korean if only south koreans spoke it, and i would hate spanish if spaniards didn't exit.
>>106353527
i used to speak fluent spanish and yiddish, but forgot both almost completely after years of not using them, your brain automatically kicks out things you don't need.

C greybeards are diamond dozen and likely useless outside it and maybe perl
Erlang greybeards are likely way more useful.
