It used to be great, the objectively superior choice for desktop computers, but it's been undermined by user-hostile anti-features like telemetry / spyware, ads, bloatware, shit like forcing people into updates with forced restarts, AI garbage and so on. It's pretty fucking shit nowadays, I think the only reason it's still in wide-ranging use is its compatibility with both software and hardware, which is just a legacy from the time when it was actually good.
You can see this if you look at its desktop OS market share, it has been on a steady decline for over a decade at this point. Nobody WANTS to use Windows because it's good anymore, you just have people still using it either out of inertia or because the things they want to use are compatible with Windows. As people realize they can accomplish their tasks elsewhere, they're moving away from Windows (mainly to Mac).
