How many digits can you hold in my head at once.
How does that affect your programming skill?

I can only hold 4.

You might have ADHD but that's not the only condition that leads to poor scratchpad memory, so don't run out to get some drugs.
I have poor scratchpad memory and have been developing software for decades. It's mostly a problem in memorization of functions, which things like autocomplete help with. This makes poorly designed job interviews hell.

I can't hold shit and I hilariously slow at doing basic integer math in my head, yet I am consistently the best programmer people have ever met.
IQ tests always score me around 130-110-150+ in (visual)memory-verbal-spatial. I bet my spergy low verbal iq has something to do with this discrepancy.

>How many digits
Do you mean number of digits or numbers? Like, what happens if you try to keep a number bigger than 9999 in your head, it just explodes?

I find that it's easier to remember long numbers if i say them out loud. then I can remember the sound of them instead of the numbers themselves if that makes sense. this is also a good technique for counting repetitive sounds, like how many times an enemy has fired in vidya or whatever. I don't have to count them in the moment, I just have to remember the string of sounds and then count them after the fact.

12 at least for a little while. I regularly work with IPv4. I can save a 'screenshot' in my mind and 'read' it as needed. Manipulate? Ehhhh...

The answer is two. Two matching digits. Like these.

7. Just think of the 867-5309 song and replace the numbers with the ones you're remembering.
