i haven't seen that presentation in awhile, but i think a bunch of the tv stuff actually revolved around american cable?
but the idea of using your console as a set-top box / primary media device, sure they were obviously right - there's no reason why you would need another device when you have a small computer already under your tv that has more processing power than any set top box.
the fact that they tried to push this during their press conference was what caused the disaster, compounded by dumb statements about always-online functionality.
plus underpowered and sony undercut them on price (i think). it was a management shit show that they never recovered from.
mind you, phil owns the state of xbox now. he's had plenty of time to right the ship and he just doesn't have it in him.

Being ahead of the times can be just as bad being behind the times. Marketing also makes a big difference. Microsoft also had tablets before Apple, but nobody gave a fuck about tablets until the iPad. The Xbox One was doomed out of the gate with all the DRM and mandatory kinect shit. The thing could've sucked your dick, and the coverage around it would've still been negative because of those two things alone.

Except for the fact that even PS3 had all those multimedia and MSFT was merely mocked for prioritizing it instead of gaming
Besides, PS5 and XSEX are gimped and can't have 2 apps open at the same time like their predecessors so they're behind the times and demands of zoomers who need constant dopamine.

They presented their new console by talking about TV for 90% of the presentation (and that was cable TV, not on demand streaming). They also included a mandatory, always watching and listening camera.
Having the multimedia capability wasn't the problem. Making the video game console about multimedia and not about games was the problem.
Even the name shows their retarded way of thinking. Everyone called the Xbox 360 "the 360", so they called it xbox one thinking people would call it "the One" and it would be an all in one device for media consumption. Instead people called it the xbone and nobody bought it.

Also the Switch, the most popular console, doesn't have those streaming apps.

It was just poor execution. People wanted to hear about games. iirc the details of this press conference leaked about a week before and people were already showing frustration.
But they went ahead and went with the TV shit anyway. Retards should have saved that for a later conference.

Oh, and should've also eaten the cost of the fucking Kinect and sold for $399. They were still charging consoletards JUST to play online using their existing ISP anyway. Essentially pulling money out of their ass.

When I was visting some college friends at their townhouse we would always use the xbox one for playing tv shows and movies. I don't think we used the xbox one once for gaming; Only the Wii, my computer and that's about it. Talk about a major let down for a "next gen console". I also can't believe xbox fags still talk about how open the one is with its developer mode, knowing fully well that it costs money to access emulation and shit. Actually I think now developer mode doesn't cost any money, but still.
