Despite always having low storage, I keep seeding for 24 hours, no matter the ratio. Sometimes I upload nothing, and sometimes, in that 24-hour period, I seed 5 TB for a 28 GB file. That is not my problem. I do my part.

Australia has some of the highest concentration bias towards cities of any country on earth. Yeah, if you're a bogan living in the middle of nowhere I can see that your speeds suck, but how can you not have functional internet in your cities where 90ish percent of everyone lives? Even Germany, the bureaucratic hellscape of Europe, is managing to rollout fiber, and up until recently they were still on DSL for huge swathes of the population.

This changed with COVID. Lots of fiber rollouts happening all over the country because of it and it hasn't slowed down. I was stuck with Comcast cable and now I have fiber 10 gig up and down. Comcast tried to win me back with their "speed increases" but they can't beat the price I pay for the speed I get.

The US has huge percentages of fiber uptake. Fiber is cheaper to roll out over long distances than copper. I live pretty rural and I can get 7 gig symmetric plans if I want them.

The US has problems getting fiber into cities, ironically enough. Too much existing legacy infrastructure and too much in the way of local politics. My relatives in NYNY, Philly, and so on couldn't get fiber until the last year or two, and one of them only got it because they moved. Europe on the whole is much better about rolling out fiber to their cities from what I understand of things.

I'm skeptical of those charts. That says actual connections. There's lots of people sticking with comcast because they don't care about internet enough and want their complete sportsball TV packages. They have fiber available, but aren't using it, and fiber companies haven't quite figured out what to do with that. It's what keeps comcast afloat in many regions, cause their internet speeds sure as shit aren't doing it.
