Seriously, what was the point of systemd? It's fine at what it does, but so were its competitors.
An init and service manager suite? We already had OpenRC.
Timers? We already had cron.
journald? We already had syslog.
logind? We already had ConsoleKit and acpid.
timesyncd? We already had chrony.
udevd? We literally had that already.

Yet somehow, we convinced every major player to not only adopt systemd, but to deprecate everything else on a whim.

The official point that was mentioned all the time was "faster than SysVinit while better manageable". That's an OK enough point. Everything that came after was unnecessary and journald was downright a downgrade at first.

The ACTUAL official reason for systemd:
The US army runs some of it's tanks software on LOONIX
They needed to be sure some of the services were started.
SystemV couldn't garuentee.
So they funded systemd.
Which can.

A kernel module would have worked too;
but linus rips things out of the kernel (see recently: ReiserFS)
and is very hostile to ANY DOD project.
PaX/Grsecurity is funded by the DoD and he rejected
that in 2008, allows NSA linux in however.
Linus _HATES_ the US Army.
Any US Army funded project is disallowed from
the linux kernel de-facto.

"Ladyhavoc" doesn't do any work on the engine. Check the commits.

Night and day between
1) Old LordHavoc
2) 3 year interm period where he was gone
3) "ladyhavoc" era.

I still work on the engine and add new features
>BUT UR FEATURES SUUUCK!!!
Tell me another way to support over 32k entities without
1) extended the internal representation of the entity number beyond the 2 word static type it was before. (in all the many places it was pushed through)
2) extending the network representation of the entity number beyond the 2 word static type it was before. And using the algorithim used in FTE quake to do it: to keep within the "norms" of quake.
(BTW: 2 words means 2 bytes, go and figure out your max entity that way)
3) Adding a backwards compatable mode, in addition, so that if one does not wish to demand every client use the "new protocal" (LP7 (light places 7)): old clients can still play on normal maps with less than 16k entities. (in truth, they probably can play right up to 32k entities): and only drop if a newer map using tons of entities (ie for a forest where each tree can be destroyed, or the same for a city) is loaded.

How would YOU have done it
Tell me: how do you, bitwise, get over 32k in 2 bytes.
You won't.

My additions were simply necessary for on-the-fly procedurally generated maps. Which can be made by the spawnarray and spawnradial QC additions I wrote.

I'm still incredibly annoyed that when I instinctively hit tab after typing systemctl restart my shell stalls like a motherfucker. Or how journalctl doesn't actually check if the service/unit passed with -u exists, and instead just prints "-- Logs begin at --". No they fucking don't - you're just saying that because I've once again forgotten that services can have aliases, you can start/stop/restart services by their alias - but journalctl ignores them. Fix the fucking tooling Poettering.
Like, the security stuff is great - and I'd much rather deal with systemd than initscripts. But sometimes it feels like I'm back in the EL6 days trying to wrangle upstart.
Also, making KillUserProcesses=yes the default on desktop was a fucking stupid change, Fedora. If you're so concerned with pulseaudio holding the sound card on logout, then fix pulseaudio to respect SIGHUP. That's the fucking point of SIGHUP. No I'm not going to run systemd-run --scope --user tmux.

I am not trying to "achieve" for you:
only for me.

When I was making maps for unreal 1997 and unreal tournament 1999: 10FPS was a luxury.

Now I can have an entire city, with interiors, on the "same" thing (a laptop).
To me it is a win, and I enjoy it.

Streets of sim city, and sim copter ran at similar FPS.

A Zoomer like you wouldn't understnand.
Again: I rescind the license from every free thing I've ever done from you.

That includes Xonotic components I made.

>The latest master release finally has superscaling for high-quality AA.
So what? That's not on Xonotic: Xonotic cannot even compile their dev releases with crypto anymore. They forgot how.
It's on the engine. Which Xonotic doesn't edit anymore.
And it's not on "LadyHavoc": it's on whomever actually implemented it.

What is superscaling anyway?

My fork is superior to Xonotic:
and Xonotic is MY game.

Always has been.
1) I conspired with Divverent to fork Nexuiz.
That was MY idea.
I asked him to turn other people: and he did so: Morph3d being one of the key players.

This was over IRC.
2) I said the name should be some "techish non pronouncable name like Nexuiz was"

3) I asked for, outlined, and funded the "key features" of Xonotic, during the dusk of the Nexuiz era:
1) Unreal-Style portals.
I asked for this from divverent, outlined what I wanted, and I sent money in envelopes over to germany to divverent (Rudolf Polzer)
2) Encrypted networking
I asked for this from divverent, outlined what I wanted, and I sent money in evelopes over to germany.
3) Fake light: I noted that in the editor there was a lighting mode much like simcity 2000: why not implement that in the engine? He did it the next day, then extended it.
4) lasers in maps: I asked for this, so I could do the laser hallway from resident evil, he implemented it. again I sent money over in envelopes to germany.

The work I did myself for the end of Nexuiz, beginning of Xonotic.
QC: trigger_heal : I wanted heal pod style maps like in Unreal 1997
Model: tuba: I was asked by Divverent (Rudolf Polzer) to make a tuba: he had asked Morph3d to do it, but morphed didn't. So I looked at a picture of a tuba and modeled one, and donated it. As I was asked to.

So I am the only one, save for illfonic, that actually paid for Darkplaces/Nexuiz/Xonotic develpment, and I also contributed my own code and modeling to it. Which is still used to this day.

Thus I have an ACTUAL license for the engine, gamecode, etc. Because I paid.

Unlike you.

I played Unreal and Unreal Tournament, And Streets of Sim City, and Sim Copter. Got 10 fps. Maybe.

9 fps for a full city, with interiors is fine for me. Doesn't bother me.

Often I get 30 fps in the cities/towns.
It's likely due to every entity having to be checked against every other entity every frame.

Any obj format map (obj_from_mc), seemingly no matter how many triangles, runs at 60 fps. Halo 4 maps etc.

Which run in MY version of the engine.
That I'm being dissed about for not having some new version of AA.

I was dissed for not having anti-aliasing for YEARS here, even though FXAA was available for 5 years now in the SOURCE CODE, in the LINUX BUILD, and in the WINDOWS BUILD, but not the MAC build because I could NOT get that build to load a map, on new OSX on NEW compiles.

Now that I added the MacOSX fix, the FXAA complaints have suddenly stopped, Now I'm dissed for not having "SXAA" or whatever it is.

Why did the FXAA complaints suddenly stop when I added the fix to the sourccode for Mac OSX, but are now replaced with "UUU DONT HAVE SXAA".
What the hell is this special anti-alisaing? I don't even have the hardware to use it. WHY would I patch it in? Can't even test if it would work.
