Seriously, what was the point of systemd? It's fine at what it does, but so were its competitors.
An init and service manager suite? We already had OpenRC.
Timers? We already had cron.
journald? We already had syslog.
logind? We already had ConsoleKit and acpid.
timesyncd? We already had chrony.
udevd? We literally had that already.
Yet somehow, we convinced every major player to not only adopt systemd, but to deprecate everything else on a whim.
