They should have just said that AVX2 will be a requirement. Date of release in this regard is a mess due to Intel product fragmentation. Not only Haswell had it before Skylake, but Atoms, Pentiums and Celerons up to 2021, way after Skylake, did NOT have it.

I stopped researching it halfway through because the available info is a bit of a mess, but it looks like not ALL haswell chips supported AVX2. e.g. Pentium and Celeron chips didn't. There were also some CPUs with 4xxx model numbers that are actually Ivy Bridge and therefore didn't have AVX2.
I'm guessing they're stating the requirement as "6th gen (Skylake)" because it's the easiest way to be sure of a CPU with AVX2.

I wouldn't be surprised, but why should Google care? A relative of mine had an older Chromebook that suddenly stopped working on some website they needed to use, because that site was doing some faggotry that required a more recent version of Chrome. But since Google no longer supports this Chromebook it no longer gets browser updates. Google's suggestion: buy a new Chromebook. Of course there are workarounds, both to update the browser while still on ChromeOS and to just install a real operating system. But guess what choice my relative picked.

I agree with you in that it's retarded, but the unfortunate thing is how *individual* users will ultimately fall to the pressure most of the time. What I'm curious about is how school districts, especially those in poorer areas, are going to handle this. Chromebooks are literally useless without a browser as you've said. I can't imagine a district being happy about having to replace thousands of student laptops just because of this.

They have to upgrade eventually anyway. Chromebooks are designed to become obsolete, and they end up obsolete rather quickly.

Chromebooks have better support than Windows and Mac computers.
Windows 11 requires 8th gen Intel or newer which is at most 6-7 years ago
Apple supports their macs for 5 to 7 years.
Chromebooks are supported for 10 years.

the whole point of the WEF's 2030 agenda is to create a permanent underclass of poorfags and restrict our current standard of living to good goys who are selectively allowed to join a faux middle class composed primarily of managers and tard wranglers. Regular people will not be allowed to own nice things, travel, or live long lives. and the only people they can reach are the middle class managers/tard wranglers stuck in the 'walkable' smart cities. Your e-bike or tesla cant drive to their richfag enclaves, and you cant get on a plane or boat to reach their islands. And if you try, all your smart devices will be shut off remotely anyways.

its an extremely well thought out plan, you are just too much of a midwit to understand the broader implication of all these control systems and their long term effects on society.

we have decades of psychological research on human behavior. People don't go on long journies to kill billionares, they assault their neighbors and burn down their own communities when things get really bad. Every extra race you add to a city is a new target for people to go after instead of a ceo. The only time the goverment got pissed during blm and covid riots was when? When people hitgovernment buildings. The news and politicans happily cheered when Trayvon attacked Juan, Timmy, Akmed or ChingChong. Societal release valves are already baked into the system.

They have their mansions and shit but not many (civilian) big-wigs are as reclusive as you think they are. You see paparazzi shots of them all the time, they drive on the same streets as everyone else. For now. It would be a long and OBVIOUS transition to them being a physically segregated elite-society.

The divide-and-conquer hate-thy-neighbor messaging is failing in real-time, people are seeing through it. They overextended themselves to make 2020 happen, broke the illusion for a lot of people. At a point the financial burden on the average joe will be too big to blame on "whitey" or "niggers" or "kikes" or whatever, and then they'll turn to the obvious culprits. I personally don't see nothing wrong with using old hardware but ironically the people that you'd consider to have normal PC tasks have already moved on to newer hardware for reasons outside of straight horsepower.
Laptops are all but guaranteed not be usable as laptops in 3 years. If anything dies in a desktop that's often an excuse to upgrade even if perfectly fixable.

People slumming it out by dealing with issues, fixing or outright assembling systems with old hardware is alot more than 95% of what the population is willing to do.
The select few systems that a "normie" still might use that are pre-skylake are just the one's that survived.

I do not see any issue with making AVX2 builds, they should even make AVX512 builds if it would have helped their use case. The problem is making AVX2 builds ONLY. Why there must be only one?
