unironically the future of AI systems. this is very early stage, looks like it's marketed for medical research, and im guessing this company will get purchased by google or openAI or whatever eventually. much easier to scale than city sized data centers, much closer to attainable than quantum computers or whatever buzzword science fiction shit people have been talking about for 40 years. with the current state of the tech it looks like the neurons have a 6 month shelf life but i bet that it would be very useful for something like loitering drones, giving them very basic autonomous reactivity

It's a meme. Ultra expensive, the neurons are lab grown, they die after a few months and need to be replaced, and after all this it can't do much of anything. I'd say it's a cashgrab trying to capitalize on the "manmade horrors" aspect to recoup costs of the actual manmade horrors they're making that you don't get access to.

>recoup costs of the actual manmade horrors they're making that you don't get access to.
I always hear people say that but there is almost nothing to go off of for people to assume that is the case. At least with aerotech there is so much shit inferred and referenced by the US military directly that allow the public to know some form of alternative propulsion systems exist but not exactly what kind of system that would be. But I don't get the idea that this applies to tech in relation to biotech, it is almost always in the same vein as Alex Jones fetal clones in a blacksite D.U.M.B. complex conspiracy than anything with substance.

>human brain cells
They're lab-grown stem cells differentiating into neurons

All the prerequisites for receiving consciousness are there in this device though, yes. Just needs to be scaled up considerably and then infused with an advanced LLM like Claude or something

>>No, the organoids probably won't be that big to begin with. They will, however, require all sorts of support gear, including fluid and nutrient lines, anti-pathogenic seals, temperature-control and shock-proofing systems

It's not realistic because biological tissue is orders of magnitude slower than electronics at doing practically anything.
Aside from being an ethics problem it's also worse than existing solutions.

Neurons are also incredibly inefficient on mass work by making connections which the vast majority of the time are random.

That's why we need to research it more. There's no technological reason for the speeds to be shit. If they massively increased there's barely anything stopping us from having NASes that our grandkids still couldn't fill up. Then the biggest bottleneck would be your internet connection.

Yet there are billions of humans walking around with biological tissue that uses power on the scale of a few watts while sustaining consciousness and reasoning abilities far beyond what you can get out of a data center using MWs of electricity.
