The analog stick should be right of your thumb because you push right in most sidescrollers. The ps layout is simply inferior. I have not seen much innovation outside of the sticks. MS won't add more buttons, and other companies won't add more than one gyro + other sensors. There seems to be a stalemate in terms of buttons and sensors. I am waiting on the hopeful steam controller 2. There are some custom GC controllers I am taking a look at too, but you have to assemble them yourself. Not for me.

The original xbox controller had the same amount of buttons as the 360 not counting the on/off. Xbox had no shoulder buttons above the triggers. Black and white essentially became the shoulder buttons. The game I used the black and white buttons on the most was chaos theory.

I've been thinking about buying another one to use with vr. I have dirt rally 2 and assetto corsa and I see the potential since the headset feels like a racing helmet anyway, actually being able to look at mirrrors and out windows feels incredible. Only issue is refresh rate and latency but the immersion feels amazing.

i was using a ds4 and it was okay. i was looking at 8bitdo controllers and some people recommended the vader series.

i ended up getting a series x (core?) controller and it seems pretty good. i was thinking of getting the elite series (elite core? whoever names shit at xbox needs to be summarily executed) but it seemed like a lot of people say it falls apart after a few months and it costs fucking $200+. i bought a wireless charging battery from powerA for the series x and it lasts forever and charges fast. i might try the vader pro or whatever sometime but for now im happy.

Anyone saying anything about the sticks between first-party controllers is memeing on you. Thumbsticks are a pretty well standard part at this point and having taken apart a dozen controllers across several consoles, the thumbstick "internals" have been the exact same part and the shroud/stick assembly have all been basically the same size with the sole exception of Gamecube thumbsticks having a slightly larger shroud and their iconic shapes for the part your thumb hits (but you can jam an xbox/playstation stick on it if you want, it just leaves an unsightly gap. but it fits perfectly because the actual x/y potentiometer thing is the exact same part and even the little pokey bit to slot the stick on is the same size)
