I just need a thin client for remoting into my workstation while I travel. Nothing seems to be better than the M1 Air for my use case at this price. Even the newer Airs and Pros are worse because of the screen notch. I currently use a Chromebook and the screen is too low res and dim, otherwise it's perfect.

They objectively don’t and the real difference is that once a Mac gets slow you buy a new one and a windows user can repair his pc instead. Linux is for everything else in between and more.

macbook pro user here. the touchpad, screen and speakers are great. the keyboard sucks. the specs are ok but are probably wasted on me. finder is absolute garbage holy shit I hate is so much I thought linux had it rough with their file managers but finder is just awful and clunky. With that said I like the fact the system is more permission based so it's kinda like android. For example a bash script looping and editing file in a directory needs permission on first run. Same for other programs and permissions. The fact there is no drag and drop on macos is honesty baffling. I had to enable an accessibility setting to make three finger gestures act like click+drag

Not actually true by the way. When I was in the market for a new laptop the cost of a top of the line Thinkpad was about the same as a top of the line Macbook Pro. Lower ranges might be more skewed but at the high end they're about the same.
I went with the Macbook Pro because Windows 11 is unbearable dogshit and Linux is missing a lot of software and the FOSS alternatives aren't good. So for me it was really just an OS choice, for price/performance there really wasn't much difference.

My MBA M3 is creating builds faster in unity than my PC (7800X3D, RTX04080, nvme m2 ssd, 32 GB Ram).
Also it's getting warm (not hot) while being passive cooled. Instead my PC is around 65 C with higher spikes while creating a build.

You really can't find something better than the m4 mac mini right now for that price. It's $509 refurbished. I'm about to buy one as an upgrade from my current m1 mac that I got in 2021. I'll be able to sell it because mac's somewhat retain value. I have an offer of $170 for it (super used & no box).

If you can find me a better deal, by all means. I don't game, I just program. I have an iPhone too, and I use it as a webcam.
