Microsoft Windows 11 24H2 update may cause SSD failures; DRAMless SSDs are more vulnerable.
If you have a potentially vulnerable SSD, revert Windows update, disable automatic Windows update, & use Registry Editor to set 64 MB HMB allocation policy (or disable HMB).
https://www.neowin.net/news/report-microsofts-latest-windows-11-24h2-update-breaks-ssdshdds-may-corrupt-your-data/

RTX 50 Super: might launch in Q4 '25, 24GB VRAM for 5070 Ti & 5080 Super, 18GB for 5070 Super.

>Omissions
RTX 5070: buy if it's reasonably priced & if you plan to work around potential VRAM bottlenecks.
RX 9070 non-XT: worth considering if it's significantly cheaper than the 9070 XT.

Intel 13 & 14th gen i7/9 -K CPUs: BIOS update required due to reliability issues. Recommended to set a CPU VR voltage limit (1.4 or 1.45V).

>Product Notice
Gigabyte RTX 50 & RX 9000 video cards: thermal gel has QC issues, Gigabyte claims only early production batches were affected.

Monitor upgrades are such a confusing process

I know this looks better than what I had but I also don't like some aspects of how it looks, in particular the whites being eye-searing, and everything I configure seems to be ever so slightly off and leave either a faint blue tint or a faint green/yellow tint
And that's not even getting into HDR shit which I'm not even sure I should bother with because only Win11 seems to have half-decent support for it
It feels like there should be an easier way to do this

no it isn't. it only becomes placebo after 1000hz. 1000hz is one frame per millisecond which is the same as your IRL vision. totally perfect clarity and any blur you see at the refresh rate will be the same natural blur that comes from motion irl, also perfect responsiveness and input lag. and the first gpu to achieve this in counterstrike will be a radeon because of novideos cpu overhead

If you are talking pro players, the more relevant equipment is going to be their mouse, keyboard, mousepad. They are all playing on the same monitor they use at lan and they are all going to be using the same computer at lan.

NViDIA doesn’t sponsor CS2 tournaments, TOs picked GeForce.
The pro players have a lot of say on tournament PCs.
PGL switched to X3D CPUs because the pros asked for it.

checking some reviews a lot of people seem to mention abl, but its an older gen oled.
PG27AQDM has weird brightness curve where its super bright 900nits at 10% window, and <200 nits at 50% window

a new tandem oled XG27AQWMG has 578 nits at 10% window and 357 at 50% window, so you can expect the experience of seeing bright highlights to be way different.

A partial blower design like the Acer a770 would be interesting
A full blower like what you're asking for wouldn't be viable since blowers have only a tiny cross section where cool air hits the heat sink and parts of the fins that are behind this initial section don't really help in cooling because air would flow past it and the small bit of air that does hit it was already heated up at the earlier sections of the fins

The blower fan eats up a significant portion of space that could have been used for the heatsink
And pushing air over a long heatsink cools less efficiently than pushing air over a wide heatsink. You can beat physics in this case.
Sure you could brute force 600w of cooling with 16k rpm fans, but it sure as hell won't be quieter than the 4 slot GPUs we have today.

Hello sirs please thank you sirs. Is 9070XT the best option for the foreseeable few months, at least? I'm upgrading from a 2060 so anything is a great improvement, but I'm mildly interested in rumors about 9080 coming out Totally Very Soon. Overall I don't really give much of a shit about raytracing, and where I am a 9070 XT costs like 850 bucks on the low end while a 5070ti costs like 1000 bucks on the low end.

Given that GPUs make it into my country by way of mysterious Kyrgyzstani men buying truckloads of GPUs in Germany or whatever the fuck, there's no telling how much a 5070 Ti SUPER will cost. It may well cost more than a 5070 Ti just because the vendors feel like trying to charge more for a newer product.

Eh, I really won't mind waiting some months, I trudged along on a 2060 this far, and I already got a pleasant upgrade in performance from swapping out my mobo, CPU and RAM this summer (had a 6700k and 32gb DDR4, went to a 7 7700 and 32gb DDR5, suddenly HoI4 fucking zooms along). It's the matter of price to performance that I care about, and the inherent unpredictability of waiting for new cards to appear, be priced at what they are supposedly meant to be priced, be parallel-imported into my country, and go down from initial hype and overpricedness to anywhere near MSRP vs just getting a 9070 XT while it's cheaper than it was a month ago.

I used Radeons until R9 270 then they stopped making sense and I used NVIDIA ever since. I bought Intel 14th gen last month by the way, because AM5 X3D are overpriced to hell and back here. Needing Cyberpunk mod for AMD optiscaler to work until recently, tells me everything I need to know about current GPU market.

NVIDIA is overly leaning into AI shit and before that, crypto, hurting gamers. That's a fact.
But AMD is leaning into their current CPU monopoly, cannibalizing foundries for their CPU market at the expense of GPU production. Fucking 9060 used to cost same as 5070 Ti here on its release. And the prices are still not down.

When Radeons have same performance, features and stability as NVIDIA, and most importantly - availability of stock and pricing, I will start buying them again.

if you run 20 hours straight you also need to get a good panel which not does autorestart like a retard every 16 hours like alot of current monitor firmware
or you buy a cheap oled tv and run it nonstop for 3-5 years until it gets worn down by dead pixels and burn
which then you could apply one of the oledmaxxing strats such as 1) use your free panel replacement from vendor like LG as far as TV goes 2) get extended X year warranty from your Retailer and use it

You're basically only getting an increased power limit. Also the cards especially this gen are already running past the peak efficiency point, you're going to double power draw vs an "undervolt" for like +10% max in actual games.
As far as I know it's literally impossible to brick a recent card with a bios flash, probably want to have a second card ready to go for recovery but if the bios is incompatible what almost always happens is that you'll still get output until you try to install drivers.

North has the inferior fans and frame.
Epoch has 120 Momentum fans with an inferior frame.
Meshify 3 has 140 Momentum fans with a better case frame.

If a case/component/monitor isn't in the OP, it doesn't mean you should avoid it.

I forgot to add that the North & Epoch's top panel limits the AIO size to 240mm.
There is a noticeable jump going from a 240mm AIO to a 280mm.

Every consumer-grade DDR5 memory module has on-die ECC (corrects errors within the memory chip) and a PMIC.
It's not the same as server memory sticks, where they have a dedicated ECC chip in the module, and the server CPU's memory controller supports ECC for end-to-end coverage.
