What's the best way to become a l33t haxx0r girl as a clean slate? Say you know nothing and want to avoid all the confusions and demotivating things early on that most people have to deal with. Surely there's a more efficient way of mastering software that won't make you feel dread, I want to become the best pentester but I feel as though I gotta organize my thoughts first and learn how things are built maybe. Assembly and c, do hands on projects with disassemblers like hacking old game executables to modify something inside
Learn networking and protocols, make some networking app from scratch
Learn cheat engine and hack some old mmos, then make something trough dependency injections
Learn sql

That's literally it. I did overthewire (also installed linux) to underdtand linux, and did hackthebox and tryhackme. I also did 3 years innthe SOC and majority of the time any questions we had, we had to google it. You need to learn how to google well and not give up. You won't be a pentester in a month if that's what you're thinking. You need to do self research into APTs (review crowdstrike monthly reports), keep up to date on latest attack trends, understand basic networking, basic programming, the mitre process and so much more.

There will always be someone there to help you, but it's expected that you do your own self research within the IT industry, because all the answers are there available for you to search. When I became a security engineer I had no hand holding, had to google, do self-research, read documentation and double check with my colleagues for the most simple of changes like exclusions (make sure i am not doing it wrong). You can't expect to enter the IT industry and keep asking dukb questions like what is the diffence between UDP and TCP, or what a DC is.

You'll have to go through everything that someone with a computer science degree must learn + a heavy focus on security and reversing. You'll have to be genuinely curious, patient, and very obstinate to get through the many, many, many walls you'll face when learning to do all those things.

I'm out of touch with the current "cybersec" zeitgeist but since you're already familiar with what pentesting is you could start by getting study material for the OSCP, read some best-sellers from No Starch Press like Violent Go while learning a programming language, and work from there.

I wish I had a parent that got me intetin this early on in life, I have motivation but I doubt myself all the time. I feel as if though I'll never achieve a thing sometimes that's why i impulse bought a pi to force myself to return on investment. I'm only doing it for fun. I recently learned about ransomware and dl'd an old ass hidden tear to look at it, it was on github and old enough that there's probably materials on it. I realized i lack understanding of basics so I turned to here to know where do i start that's why i initially made this thread. Although passion is real, it's a double edged sword i feel bad if i am not good even if I'm just starting. I read a lot and it always sends me into another term that i read on then on and on, eventually i wanted to just know what's the most basic thing out there, rather than climbing down the ladder i want to climb from the start

I forgot to add, one of the best uni courses i've taken was about how a cpu works, from the transistor to logic gates to all the components like ALUs and so on. That naturally led to assembly. You dont need to memorize the equations and microsignals, but a general idea of the hardware basics helps me understand and reason about stuff I see on youtube.
But again im not working in cybersec so this might be overkill for you
