nVidia is hooked on that easy AI money. Where the AI "business" is companies taking out ever bigger loans and generating revenue by circle jerking each other with new debt. When the music stops the only ones left with a seat will be huge companies like Faceberg who already cut their nVidia dependency, and nVidia will be back to sucking off gamers for Mercury dimes. Except now much diminished because all the smart people sold their stock and retired.

There's not that much of a patent moat around building vector operator units. Those patents expired long ago (they were probably all filed by IBM in the 1960s).
The moat is that making new chip designs is very very very expensive, and not many people are any good at it. Recouping that level of investment is difficult.

The only patent moat is super large scale interconnects, which is probably going to be a legacy market for nVidia. Cloud companies aren't making their own vector processors because they can only sell to themselves and that shit doesn't make money in the first place. They'd just be giving away 9 figure tape-out costs to TSMC for no reason.

You would pick the 5080 when your intentions are more than just gayming which the 5080 is much better suited for (see: LLMs, Blender, etc). The idea of using Linux purely for gayming is probably the most delusional take ever.
