Why everyone keep using discord despite being shit while lots of better alternatives exist? Is it because it's the popular thing?

It's even more retarded when you see Ai haters using discord and shove lots of bots at their servers.

I have never liked discord idk why,I just download any app that pedos or terrorists use like telegram or session because more privacy and keeps normalfags away

I wish Discord (or an alt) had actual server software you could host yourself, instead of a chatroom.
That plus it's the Facebook of tech. You need Discord or X for a lot of internet social interactions.

well... ok, like?
>slack
pure shit, I don't even know how they're still around.
>teams
see above, also not easy to get bots, meeting interface lacks basic shit and it's tied to hidden SharePoint-isms that cause other weird bugs depending on how fucked up your SharPoint setup is.
>matrix
constant churn, bugs, "federated" means nightmarish bullshit.
>XMPP
million optional standards, more federation bullshit
>IRC
literally can't do anything consistently, most IRCv3 is a fucking meme outside of standardizing SASL. 512B (including line termination + nickname + command + other syntax junk) messages. no standard on monospaced text, no standard for sharing files, no standard for "carbon copy" even. only semi redeeming factor is the protocol is about as "self discoverable" as STOMP, JSON documents and other shitty text-like protocols. easy to shit out things that "work."

>Is it because it's the popular thing?
Yes, I think so at least. Remember Skype? Despite being worse than malware and slow af people used it because 'all muh frens are there, it's what people use'
Yeah IRC was still alive and whatnot but the average normie was still sticking with Skype
Eventually Discord will fall anyway, one can only hope the next thing is better but that almost never happens

How easy is element to set up today?
If it isn't as easy as discord, then most people are never going to use it. That includes servers as well.
I agree that Element/Matrix is a vastly superior technology in principle, but the question is if it's easy to use and set up for the average user, and if it's reliable and stable enough for professional organisations to use.
I haven't been following what they've been changing for the past couple of years. So I'm unaware if they live up to these standards now.
I hope we will see wider adoption of the Matrix architecture. It has so much potential.

You don't need to setup anything. Sign up on matrix.org create an account on their server. Then you can easily create large groups or have 1:1 chats

If it's that easy, and works on phones too, then everyone should be using it.

IRC is an application layer protocol.
Matrix is vastly superior in probably every regard compared to IRC.
IRC is still great for what it is, but it's a pain to set up. Most people are never going to set up IRC.

retard-proof design, lets even the dumbest of normalfag get in on voice calls.
my friends' mumble server moved to discord, and while i still prefer mumble for audio quality, latency and it not being centralized, at least we don't have to handhold and hear bitching and whining about setting the client up when we invite friends to the server anymore.

Mass banning who? Like Reddit it’s easy to get banned from individual servers for breaking their Nazi rules but unlike Reddit theres still tons of servers for communists like you to thrive. Discord isn’t going anywhere because all the alternatives were too dumb to improve
