I got this piece of shit dell desktop with a 290w power supply. What should I do with it? What gpu can I add to it?

is it ATX compliant? Then there's a lot possible

Is a sata to 6 pin good?
Anonymous No.106389195 [Report]
Depends heavily on the year it came out.

If it's a 6000 series intel >>106389175 is right
If it's a +10 series, the RX7400 that's coming out soon might be ideal.

>>106389186
You have 290w anon, you can't use any graphics card that needs a 6pin connection.

GTX 1650 is the strongest GPU you can go without external power connector that also doesn't cost too much to revive an e-waste.

The newer versions require 6 pin

I'm so fucking tired of tech being like this. Chinese can put USBslop on everything but building a computer requires a specific planetary alignment.

It's almost as if prebuilt devices don't have an incentive to pull shit like this

Anon, the prebuilt you got probably didn't need anything above the intergrated graphics on the AMD/Intel CPU. 290W PSU is overkill for most any non-dual CPU socket board and fine for any lower end AutoCAD style GPU which often goes into these types of machines. PCI-E x16 can provide like 75W so a 1650 Non super or RX7400 would be the way to go, unless you want to upgrade the Power supply.

All this is useless though unless you tell us what the other specs are. For all we know it has a 4000 series intel CPU meaning anything about a 1650 would simply be useless as you're bottlenecking at the CPU/PCIE version.

Awesome. A "lose money" machine. Better idea: get a 300W incandescent lamp - at least it does something useful like light up the room. INB4 "running a monero node for free supports the network" uhuh that's called being a cuck.

You also have to consider compatibility with this proprietary trash. Not all gpus will be plug and play

You do have the option of using a second PSU, if you have the option of creatively attaching it somehow to the case (internally or externally). Find one with power specs and connectors you want, look up how to bridge the pins on the mobo connector. Use your 290 W to run the computer itself and the second PSU dedicated for the GPU. Get creative, search youtube. I've not looked into it personally in recent years, but it was a workable solution back a decade or so ago, still can be. Depends on if you care about having a frankenPC, but if you're not going for looks you can rig it for performance.

Not OP but going by picture it's Dell Precision Tower 3000 Series (3620), which supports 6th gen intel (and 1200 v5 xeons which are quite cheap). A 1270 v5 is a i7 6700 without an igpu, and it's like $12 on aliexpress. So OP should grab that too.

They should just work considering how many office drones are still using GT 710 as a glorified VGA port.

Often the 700 series nvidia are whitelisted in the spec sheets. You might have a harder time with newer cards. Nvidia seems to play nicer than AMD though.

No, stop listening to the retards on this board. They don't know anything and neither do you. What you want, what you need, what you should be doing with your glorious machine, is a Minecraft server. A good Minecraft server, with a nice modpack, something to hang out on with your friends at night after work, something the boys will be proud to call home. You install FTB on it, you keep it simple, you use the parameters to let the JVM use more RAM, you keep it running 24/7. No gay shit, just a nice, traditional, Minecraft server. You will be proud, you will finally be happy.

You can actually just drop in certain 3050 models. Just make sure you get one that doesn't require auxiliary power.
