They aren't worse per say, but Nvidia isn't really competing much anymore as they already captured nearly the whole market share of discrete GPUs. The monopolization of the tech market is becoming concerning.

The 9070 XT, this gen's best AMD GPU, generally gets worse performance than its competitor, the 5070 Ti, while drawing more power. Also, while FSR4 is good, it is very new and not in many games, so you'll need to use OptiScaler, which might not always work. At the moment Nvidia no longer seems to have better drivers than AMD. But it is only in games that the performance gap has closed- in anything else that GPUs are used for, Nvidia is still king.

It's the fucking godawful drivers. I've got a 5000 series GPU and it's stuttering on just playing back normal anime videos. Who knows how many months or years they'll need to push out just one working driver.

They realized that boomer VC money is easier than gaymur money and if you fuck up with them you can still just go "muh china" and the US govt will bail you out and by the time any sort of reputational damage materializes in the profits you will already have offloaded your stocks to a teacher's pension fund or /biz/ bagholder. Nvidia's raw performance is still better but their drivers are garbage, their QC is garbage, and their 1st party build quality is garbage.

I am using older drivers with the 4070 because switching to the 50 series drivers was complete stuttering shit
