This keeps randomly happening and it is driving me fucking nuts. Have to wait out the initial check (often on the order of 100GB of drive read activity) to even learn of the problem, do some file operations to be able to write the correct file, reload the torrent to download the chunk (don't want client to report to tracker as snatched for a cross-seed), do a recheck and hope that I didn't fail to catch some fuckery happening like it reallocating the files so the correct files end up as differently-named copies.

Unfortunately it is a common problem, it's because of line endings. At some point someone used a misconfigured FTP (or maybe Usenet) client which converted the line endings in the text files like nfo/sfv/m3u. BTW, srrdb's CRCs for those files also aren't reliable, especially for older releases.

That said, many trackers require you to remove the NFO files, which I guess works around the problem.

I'm not sure what you're asking. You mean paying for access to private trackers? You can't buy your way in into most of the trackers (including all of the top ones). You have to climb the ladder.

Only a handful of trackers have paid signups. TorrentLeech (it's a general tracker) and AvistaZ (Asian stuff) are probably the only ones worth paying for if you're an inpatient neon who doesn't want to wait for open signups.

To get to actually good trackers, you will have to put in some effort. The information how to do that is out there.

Most of them rely on the skills of a few boomers, and passing them on will become increasingly difficult due to necessary precautionary measures and other factors. There's also the question of staff anonymity, which may soon become too hard to maintain (KYC laws, CF subpoena etc). At least police inference seems to be unlikely, the last big international trackers that had to close due to LE were wcd and bcg almost 10 years ago, most recent cases were national trackers (pixelados, the danish ones...) that are easier to target.

I don't know where you live but piracy and torrenting itself is not illegal in my country. We are free to do anything we wish to. While my country provides freedom, I do feel the sorrow you share coming from the censorship and control you must endure. I seed so much stuff, I just let it sit there forever, it's scattered across multiple computers on 2 separate networks. My upload speeds are not impressive but it essentially costs me nothing. The reason why torrenting is decentralized is because of the shared resources. If we all share with one another nobody will need to pay. Well you should know the answer. Can you find everything you want on Soulseek? If so, then clearly it's enough. Otherwise, it's probably worth it, both RED and OPS are pretty good. RED has a bigger library, but much harsher economy than OPS.

Also, music trackers and soulseek aren't the only options. There are websites that allow you to download music directly from streaming services, they're linked in the RED spammer's guide in the OP (desu I suspect that at some point they all will be killed, but it hasn't happened yet)

Another option is scene, they still rip a lot of music. New releases are available on 0day trackers, they're all easy to join (Milkie, Seedpool, Digitalcore). For old (meaning more than a few months old) releases, there's scnlog request forum.
