Do We Really Need Cookies?
With the advent of mysql databases, sessions, what is the purpose of cookies? Websites already remember all of my preferences once I login to the website.

Making a login and tracking passwords is annoying, and a barrier to entry for a site or service.

Also, storing personal information on 3rd party infrastructure is just dangerous. Eventually, the site will get pwned, whether through stupidity or a malicious employee reverse engineering the password hash. This is the main way the big hacks happen. Take email + password combos from bullshit site and try them on bank websites. Much better to just not store personal cyroptographical info on bullshit sites in the first place.

Archive.org quietly implemented save data for old 8 & 16 bit games they ported to HTML5+Javascript. They did this through cookies/local session storage. The games just save your data in the browser without you having to think about it. An elegant solution that doesn't compromise personal data or require any input from the user. Forcing shittiness of life features and compromising data security in exchange for quality of life features would have been retarded.
