I got high on shrooms in college and watched what felt like a 10 minute trailer for Zoolander 2 on my phone.
My buddy came out of his room and told me I was screaming "WHAT THE FUCK" at the top of my lungs without realizing.
I think the ad was only 2 min long.

you know how the government gets bent out of shape when you try to teach your niece stuff about computers and they call it grooming? thats literally what these companies do. They arent targeting you, they are targeting your children. Zoomers love advertisements. They see them as just another part of the non stop stream of free entertainment. a 5 minute ad is just a 5 minute breal from whatever goyslop they were previously consuming. Its a kind of pallet cleanser for them. Since they have no hobbies, no desires, they dont value their own time therefore ads arent a 'waste of time' to them.

Youtube literally won't even play most videos for me now on my iPad but if I use an ad blocker and my desktop computer I never ever ever see a single ad. It's like Google can sense that I'm blocking ads on the one thing and is trying to make good by shoveling even more ads onto the other device. I can take a nice leisurely shit and not even finish the ads any more. What's the fucking point of a bathroom iPad if you can't watch funny videos while you shit?

The thing about youtube ads is that I wouldn't mind watching a 30sec ad for 30mins of ad-free viewing. You could say thats not very much ad time but right now they're getting 0 ad time from me. Wouldn't 30sec/30min be more profitable than trying to force 5min ads on me that I'm never going to watch? Wheres the compromise? Hell even 1min of ads for 20mins of free viewing wouldn't be too bad.

revenue isn't profit. the google services segment (which contains youtube, google ads, chrome, google maps, etc.) is profitable but they have never broken out youtube profit/loss on a standalone basis because it's not profitable due to the immense cost of bandwidth and storage space.

There have been "controversies" (people whining on social media) for, again, OVER A DECADE because they didn't block ads and found themselves being served some guy's hour-long minecraft video as an ad.

adblockers occasionally break and when this shit happens it goes to show just how out of touch "marketers" really are. not only is youtube insane for even allowing such long ads (even TV stations generally impose a time limit so they can run a minimum number per ad break) but studies have shown that shorter is better for most video advertising. i could go on youtube without an adblocker right now, intentionally see a dozen ads, and recut each and every single one to not just be less annoying but more effective and with better comedic timing/musical effect/etc.

ad execs are just fucking shitty directors. i saw one the other day for oreos that was just a pack of oreos floating on an abstract background with some public domain music for 15 full seconds. how does someone make that and not get instantly fired
