Why no Plasma edition of Mint?
The only reason Mint is losing marketshare is the lack of decent DE's. Cinnamon is simply deprecated and ugly, whereas modern Plasma is faster, prettier, and has more features (like actual Wayland support).

If Linux Mint got a KDE version I would instantly recommend it to my friends despite the shitty old drivers.

Linux Mint is supposed to be a stable distro. KDE is too unstable. It's full of bugs.

It used to have it, but all its other DEs are GTK-based, so they sacked it to ease the maintenance. Can still be installed manually.

They should ditch Cinnamon and use KDE as the main option and have LXQT be the light option for slower computers. There is also no good reason why they should have both XFCE and MATE versions they should've just picked one of them as the lighter option which would make it very easy to understand for a beginner

I've tried before and was a complete mess. And trying to fix the mess was so tiring that I gave up and returned to opensuse.

openSuse is objectively superior. Why would you ever move from that to Mint? Mint is entry point for Windows fags

the only thing that mint has going for it is that it has the best ootb cinnamon experience. mate and xfce are broken on mint so i don't think kde getting official support would do anything, the package is in the repos if you really want to use mint, but mint as a distro is just a less stable and more-outdated version of ubuntu, which is itself kind of pointless in 2025 because debian is now easy to install
