Has anyone managed to mod a higher-capacity battery into a modern thinkpad that doesn't take external batteries? Some models like T490-T14G2 and L480-L14G2 seem to have a bit of extra space.

Better than T490 unless you're a screen snob

I just need to replace my x230.

I have had a T560 since 2017 and it has held up really well. I had to replace the keyboard once because I spilled some water on it but it has been an absolute work horse. The keyboard is large and comfortable the screen is pretty big and of decent fidelity and while im not much of a gamer it runs my favorite games civ 5, simcity 4 and Testdrive unlimited pretty well. It is getting older so what would you recommend as an upgrade? Also it can't run windows 11, so how long could I keep it running if im just using it for python coding, word processing and retro gaming?

I have my heart set on a P14 GEN 5 or 6 with a ryzen 7 or 9

It's a nice upgrade on the whole but noticeably less sturdy. They don't build them like they used to.

Are there any alternatives?

Has anyone tried the 16" P-series Thinkpads with specifically touchscreen 4K OLED? Is the touch layer noticeable, does it make the screen fuzzy? I know it is on consumer lenovos, but I wonder whether the managed to pull a Samsung on the professional ones (Galaxy Books are one of the very few touchscreen OLEDs with the touch layer being invisible).
I would prefer getting a non-touch personally, but only the touch ones have GPUs better than a goddamn Ada 500.

just ordered 2133mhz ram for my x230, now the only upgrades left are cpu and speakers

Going to be traveling to Asia and maybe Europe after a recent layoff. I plan to do interview practice and maybe some light coding. OS will probably be trying out Omarchy.

Looking for something cheap <$300 (can be stolen), lightweight (backpacking trip), and hopefully decent battery to avoid going the Macbook Air route.

Seems like maybe an older X1 Carbon would suit me well?

T480s was the last <15'' model with similar build quality that wasn't MacBook-style unrepairable. CPU performance almost like T495 but worse GPU.

I envy US people with access to these bad boys at these prices, touch aside (the touch layer is probably way too distracting) this would have been a perfect new machine for me. Lenovo stubbornly refuses to sell most of their higher end P models in Europe, and when they do it's for 2x the price or more.
