Upgrading to a S25 from a Moto G4, should arrive soon. Don't ask me why I was still using a G4 in 2025. I chose the S25 because I wanted a decent upgrade, and that's about it. I did compare against the Pixel 9, but I'm not a heavy phone user and I like the compact design of the S25 more, without that gigantic camera bump.

I'm using the beta version of OneUI 8 at the moment. I wasn't planning on unlocking the bootloader as I want the phones efuse intact when I resell it. Saying all that, if I was going to keep the phone long term, then I would use the OEM unlock and flash LOS. I agree, I'll probably go for the next OnePlus model and whilst I would consider buying a 10 Pro Fold, I don't think I could live with a SOC that's almost 2 generations out of date compared to other chipsets.

OneUI 7 is fine, OneUI 8 will be great although there will be some growing pains now that DeX is based on Android 16 desktop mode and not the current custom solution (which also sorta sucks but I'm using it right now).

What custom ROMs are available? If you're in North America, you already cannot unlock your bootloader. In Europe, you can, but you break KNOX and Samsung/Google Pay PERMANENTLY (trips an e-fuse) and some apps refuse to run. What's the point when the only ROMs on XDA are 6 different ones made by Pajeets doing the needful and offering "debloated" versions of stock OneUI... it's just OneUI but less features and some apps preemptively uninstalled. Last time I checked no one was making Lineage or a Pixel Experience type ROM because Samsung's VoLTE implementation (a necessity in most developed nations) is proprietary.

The real light at the end of the tunnel is OneUI 8.5 or whatever they end up calling it which will release along with the S26 Pro and Ultra and the thin one (Edge?). This should be a major update for the slab type phones, while OneUI 8 was more about features for folding phones.

Reminder to keep your phone screens clean and especially make sure your screen protector is applied properly and is clean too. It lowers the quality of what you're seeing if the screen protector has pubes and air bubbles under it.

What weeb games? If they are intense like say Genshin Impact or the other Mihoyo games that use the same engine? Then you'd benefit from a better chipset. If they have more modest requirements, then it should be OK. 10 is obviously better than 9, Qi2, better (but not great) SoC, etc.

I got a Pixel 10 to replace my Note 10 with a busted charging port and it barely feels like an upgrade. I guess it will take some getting used to. E-sim is one thing, but I don't get why it's so heavy and why the screen's corners are super rounded. At least the camera is nice and I can unlock the bootloader.
