If you haven't been affected yet you can uninstall it and pause updates.
I think there was a program to hide updates so they wouldn't install themselves automatically but I don't recall what it was.

So the problem with this update is that you can go for quite a while without having any issues. I think the problem occurs when doing huge transfers, so if you're not doing that frequently, you might think you're fine, but you might not be.
