My Mint went into some weird error state yday trying to shut it down it gave a message smthg like "do you really want to shut down?" but there wasn't any ok button or anything, kinda strange..
I just forced it through power button soon after.

Just use Ubuntu at this point. Linux Mint should not be a distribution, it should be a desktop environment period.
