/iemg/ Dogma Check
Tired of the hivemind? Here’s your prescribed sanity dose:

>Crinacle is not your priest.
Rankings are a guide, not divine scripture. Your ears > his spreadsheet.

>Harman β‰  perfect.
It’s a preference curve, not a law of physics. Some genres need deviation.

>Chi-Fi isn’t magic.
Great value, yes. Immune to qc issues and hype cycles? Nah.

>Graphs are not sound.
They don’t show staging, dynamics, or fit. Use your ears, not just squigs.

>BA β‰  metallic, DD β‰  perfect.
Implementation matters more than driver type. Always has.

>Meme sets aren’t the whole hobby.
If it’s not shilled 24/7, it might still be good. It's highly encouraged to form an original opinion.

>Disagreeing β‰  cope or deaf.
Let people like what they like without foaming at the mouth.

>Loud posts =/= smart takes.
Confidence without experience is just noise. Show graphs, impressions, or both.

This has been your scheduled break from pos groupthink.

I have in fact abandoned true wireless and gone back to wired headphones. Spent months sourcing a pair of Momentum in-ear from Japan lol. I also got several Sony Walkmans with built-in ANC piping to wired earbuds, and imo they easily sound better than any true wireless product up to $200.

True wireless is a huge source of electronic trash. Extra batteries, short shelf life/designed to be unrepairable. Railway workers in Japan have to pick up from the tracks, dozens of them falling out of people's ears each day, they even invented special contraptions for this. You can't be green or sensible and still use one of these things, that's just hypocrisy at the highest level. And - even LDAC is not as good as a physical cable. I'm just gonna say it. These 6-8 years was just one big running around for nothing, My answer is I've gone back to the wired earphones I'd been using before all this and I'm happy as a clam. Should have never fallen for the true wireless con.

True wireless is nice some of the time, but I also realized later on that I only "can't tolerate cable" when I'm having low-energy days. It's a great reminder to work on my health.

Impressions after using Palavox Akasha over the weekend:
TLDR: Mid-forward, extremely wide-sounding, shrill air-maxxing pos with literally no mid-bass.

>Timbre
Akasha has this really clean and analytical tuning to it as a result of having zero mid-bass impact. Upper-mids and treble energy causes the Akasha to be shrill-sounding with lots of air/shimmer. But it is not lean-sounding, A/Bing with something like the Helios, you can tell the Akasha does have relatively thick lower-mids to it, but most of the time it is overpowered with its shrillness.

>Bass
No idea why Palavox even bothered putting a DD. Akasha has zero mid-bass. As for subbass, the Akasha does have BCD drivers which gives a slight hint of subbass rumble and texture. Bass on the Akasha is best described as β€˜rumble with no slam/decay’.

>Uppermids/Treble
Akasha is quite the shrill pos, but because of its late pinna gain, it’s not shouty – female vocals have this breathy texture, and the midrange has this glassy sheen to it. The Akasha has tons of air and is very extended – much better than the Helios.

>Soundstage
One of its strong points. Very wide-sounding. Comparable to Storm in that regard.

>Cons
Noteweight for lower-register instruments is a real problem area: the lack of mid-bass punch and slam makes bass guitar sound really anemic; you can barely make out the strumming. It’s impossible to hear the initial β€œthump” on the jazz drums so all you get is the constant shimmering of cymbals/snares.

I wouldn’t use the Akasha for instrumentals because Akasha just lacks that initial slam to give instruments authority.

>Pros
Detail monster with great separation for busy/fast electronic tracks or female poison genres like jpop/kpop. Transients are sharp and fast, and the lack of mid-bass bloom/decay allows you to scrutinize details in the music.

Verdict: Very unique tuning and worth demo-ing for the experience. Canjam goers should make an effort to audition this pos if possible.

WTB:
IEM with good sound quality (preferably Harmann or with a bit more vibrant sound particularly over bassier frequencies), think like the DT1990s
Budget is anywhere up to 1000$, but lower is preferable and sensible choices are preferred unless a clear concise justification can be given for a pricier product.
It needs to seat well in my ears even if I take it motorcycling without a helmet at high speeds.

>It needs to seat well in my ears even if I take it motorcycling without a helmet at high speeds.
this would have been the hardest requirement if you were to wear a helmet as there are few iems that sit flush with the ear
assuming you are not able to use eq, you are limited to the chopin, nova, and supermix4 as the defacto harman iems, but all are relatively bulky and do not sit well in the ear
maybe try the elua ultra, relatively very cheap and is useful for getting a feel on harman

>something that is guaranteed not to come off my ears if I go too fast because of wind
this shouldn't be much of an issue
>Or worse, something that is incapable of blocking wind noise at higher speeds.
this is VERY hard, and is caused by the same issue that i described with wearing helmets; a lot of iems jut out of the ear, so any helmet you wear will push on them, and any wind that is blowing past will be amplified and transmitted
if isolation from wind is a top priority, then the usual shure/westone/etymotic iems will be ideal

Anonymous No.106449394
>>106449383
none to my knowledge have anything close to harman, same for westone and etymotic
you will have to sacrifice isolation and form for sound or vice versa.

the cmf buds 2 have some annoying quirks:
- the eartips are not round but sorta elliptical. you can't really use aftermarket ones since they don't fit the "stem" well. you can force them on but then the buds don't fit in the charging case...
- the controls are garbage if your hand is wet/sweaty. they rarely register commands and you end up just switching the anc mode on/off. makes it almost useless for working out which is a big minus for me
- speaking of controls: they way you customize them is incredibly stupidly designed. for example, volume control can ONLY be assigned to tap+hold. you can't bind it to double tap or anything else. either tap+hold or disabled completely. and most of the functions are like that. and while i understand why there is no single tap control at all, i still would like to have the option.
- there is an option to make the buds pause playback when you take one bud out of your ear. and while you can disable that function you can NOT disable the beep that the bud makes when you trigger it, so it still does beep every time you take it out your ear. very annoying
- on a positive note - the buds have different sound alerts for triggering different functions so you can always tell if something got turned on by mistake
- you don't get a charging cable in the box. thankfully the charging port is usb-c

The sound is super balanced. Good bass, very clear vocals, great treble that is never shrill or sibilant. I don't want to EQ them at all.

Truthear Gate is pretty detailed midrange-wise for guitars, a little soft on treble and flat on bass. The cable is great, especially if you take the effort to cut off the plastic hooks.

I've been using Oneplus Buds 4 for few days already, kinda great deal at $70. Snoys are still bit cleaner in higher frequencies but imo not worth extra money - better spend it on aftermarket eartips because stock ones offer dogshit noise isolation.

Of course they aren't, they add a distinctive distortion that increases the perception of a more analog/natural timbre, it's the whole point of owning a R2R DAC.

As promised, Ruta10 review. Too lazy, didn't take pics, sorry.

Accessories: Average, which means it's relatively good, and for the price, great. You can get these for around $10, and the accessories are acceptable. There is nothing that immediately needs to be replaced, the cable and tips are fine and work well enough with the IEMs. The cable handles itself very well: it is very thin (think of the white cable that came with some TinHifi IEMs) but has practically no memory. The Y split design is old but doesn't bother me and the strain reliefs are good.

Comfort: The shell is rather strange and is slanted, and when worn, the nozzle will twist and angle itself properly, in turn making the slanted faceplate be parallel to the ear. However, the fitting is weird, and in my experience requires a lot of trial and error with tips. The earhooks also hampered fit security a lot, so I removed them. In my opinion this is mandatory since the shell of the IEM only relies on the nozzle/eartip for security, it does not rest anywhere in the ear.

Pic shows the channel matching on top, and the effects of covering the vents on the bottom.

Sound: I won't go into detail, it sounds fine, bassy and decent timbre. Honestly sounds like a Wan'er with more treble and a bit more bass, both changes that I like.

Channel matching: I've seen worse, I've seen better. It is far from good, and the discrepancy is big and wide enough to be slightly audible. I wouldn't be bothered after a while but it is a bit disappointing. The only real issue is everything below 1khz, the rest above is small enough to not be distracting.

Vents: The effects of covering the front and back vents are as expected, but the changes are decent. You can cover the front to have more bass, cover the back to decrease bass, or both to reduce the region around 100hz. Too much of a hassle for me, I would just use EQ.

Distortion: Nothing much to say, inaudible and stuff. Surprising amount of 3H but that's that. 104dB.
Anonymous No.106469363 >>106469499
>>106469356
Insertion depth: Shit looks so cool. Anyways it looks good, pretty much the same changes as seen with others. I have to remind you all that the range (7-10khz) is probably shifted higher in frequency, it should be probably be around 5.5-9khz, although since the Ruta is very small it is probably higher.

Conclusion: Another IEM that is well built, measures nicely, and fits fine. I don't feel strongly about it, get it if you want to. I do think it's a fine addition to the OP, it is basically a Wan'er with better build and increased treble. The differences are relatively small ccompared to others so I wouldn't fret over it.
I prefer it over the Gate and Wan'er. I would take the Q1 Pro and Bunny over it.
