>the 8tb nvme is double sided
>mb heatsink only covers one side
how long will the drive realistically last?
Anonymous No.106462429
Heat spreaders/heatsinks are basically unnecessary for nvme drives anyways. If it's in a desktop and not smashed against the GPU it will have more than enough cooling. The only place they benefit from a heatspreader or heatsink of sorts is a laptop

My motherboard has those built in heatspreaders for nvme and one of them is double sided.

I always take them off though since most of my nvme come with heatsinks

my main nvme drive gets about 7.1 GB/s in the gnome disk "benchmark"
my secondary drives, same drives just hooked through the chipset get 6.7

cute kitas

Dors anyone have a nm790 without a heatsink? I bought two of them but they're underneath my gpus, so I got some strips of metal for them. But the controller isn't as tall as the memory, so in order for the pad to contact it, the whole pcb bends by a degree or two.

its funny you bring this up because i did notice in one particular specific case!
loading a save in project zomboid is consistantly faster on the new drive! on the new drive its done loading before the vocals start, everytime. when i boot off the old drive its not done until after she starts singing.

I wish u.2 was more common instead of m.2 so the cooling would be easier
Funny how m.2 was favored since 2.5" SATA was not efficient, only to realize the approximate form factor was the right choice all along because cooling

Yeah that was the point I was trying to make. U.2 being more accessible (to general consumers) would solve a lot of the M.2 cooling problems.

Which would be funny because the industry moved from 2.5" SATA SSDs to M.2 then U.2.
