The internet is a fucking hellscape right now. I feel genuinely awful for kids growing up with it who will now have their entire lives indexed by AI from cradle to grave because of uncaring politicians who are too scared to threaten the big wall street line to actually enforce the law as its' written and interpreted.

The term for living under a system where it's law and order for them but complete anarchy for you is anarcho-tyranny. As only allowing a class of upper-class nobility to rule over serfs who are free to tear each other apart as long as it doesn't affect the bottom line will inevitably lead to all the worst kinds of dictatorship and anarchy. There is no escaping it, because another feature of anarcho-tyranny is the feeling that literally nobody is on your side. Politicians are careful to never seem like they're helping the underclass too much as they don't want to have their rights to law and order revoked to compete with the anarchist mobs.

The internet has been weaponized. What used to be a fascinating way to connect with people, share ideas and whatever else with good intentions, has become a way to capitalize on your data and track you.

I think I'd cry if I created this shit only to see what it has become.

It will never be able to experience the brief moment of ingenuity that was the ability to express your thoughts unfettered to the greater world in an instant. It will look back on the internet as another form of Cable TV where you consume content and are incapable of using it for anything that benefits you as a person.

Then again written History may simply not exist given enough time. It will become another curiosity that people used to take down past events instead of consuming things in the moment, like what happened during the Dark Ages where nobody cared about the ruins of the Roman Empire since it was simply the bedrock which they built their subsistence farms atop. The internet will just become the same way. Who cares about history? Just consume product, get excited for next product, listen for social media mogul to tell you what happened so you can feel certain way about future products.

What happened is that normalfags have been effectively groomed to accept less and less while paying more. I know from personal experience that trying to find anything on Japanese sites using Google Images has almost become impossible in just the past couple years, like it goes out of its way to exclude Japanese results even when you're searching in Japanese.

I'm genuinely considering canceling my internet subscription. Modern movies/music/games aren't worth pirating and nothing of note or importance happens online anymore.

I already have terabytes of old games/movies/music/books/porn that will last me the rest of my lifetime. Imagine the extra time I'll have.

I think... it might be getting a little better, a little better, but overall worse? But just a tiny bit? But in general, yeah, I think overall it is getting both much worse but in a good way.
