Is the internet a doom pit?

I was more happy when I was focused entirely on real life, had no online community I was apart of, I only used discord to play games with my friends on saturday and sunday. All I did was work, get home, sleep and wait till the weekend. Since then I have gotten way more online and I have become way more miserable then when i was a wage cuck alcoholic who never interacted with people through the internet. Ironic that I mostly enjoy being offline and occasionally browse 4chan currently.
Everyone Ive met on discord and brought them into my circle of friends has been a happiness eating gremlin that has sucked my friends that I knew from my circle of gamer high school nerds into internet starved miserable people that think the only way to get happy is to put down eachother in a stupid competition to be the "leader" of the group. I'm thinking of just cutting everyone I know from online off from me, axing social media off my phone and going back to only interacting with my IRL friends on GC and turning off friend requests to avoid being dragged back in.
Ever since I've realised how toxic the internet is I've been slowly distancing myself, I can't look at them the same. Hopefully if im right they'll see my example and realise how miserable its made them.
