Domain names were meant to label specific websites (.net for network providers, .org for organizations and .com for commercial sites)

some of them hold more authority than others in regards to search engine ranking results

oh also a difference in public perspective.
for example the website soma.fm redirects to their .com version because thats a better looking brand

it doesn't have to be, anyone can register a .org domain. You're obviously new here, next time check the catalogue for the stupid questions thread instead of creating an entirely new thread for your stupid questions. Thanks >>106439810

Doesn't need to be, .com, .net and .org have been public TLDs for a while now

But you Anonymous said that .org is for organizations and .com for commercial.
If 4chan.org uses .org is it not a organization?

Domains pretty much mean nothing unless it's .gov or .edu, in america atleast. Anyone can register .com, .org, .net

why would .net be a fake website?

and a lot of the country domains are basically up to the discretion of the country how they handle the registration.
>do they actually live here
>whats their address
>whats their gov id
while some countries are like "yes yes pay us please thank you here here"

.com is for commercial websites. The web was designed to sell you shit and to show you ads so this is the majority of all websites.
.net is for networking websites. This doesn't mean anything and .net is historically for people who couldn't get a .com because some 90s startup took it.
.org is for organization websites. This is for professionals who have their shit together or aspiring organizers who are getting it together. Of all the generic tlds .org attracts the highest quality clientele because nobody ever randomly goes to a .org site.

Modern day? Nothing. Previously they had meaning. Like getting a .org actually required some proof you were an organization and shit. Now they just hand them out.

ICANN is basically a joke, they sold to the highest bidder. There's very few TLDs actually protected anymore.

is .net trash?
Anonymous No.106474000
>>106473948
everything except .com is trash besides the unfeasible ones (.edu .gov)
the higher tier country codes are on the second level
.co.uk .ca .au
because of authority, but its easy to register a .ca domain. if you were starting a global company always .com
if your company is specific to australia specifically, then the .au

I might want to build a website one day. Don't domain extensions have different costs associated with them or was that just in the past or am I misremembering?
