the most relevant benchmark for the average person is web browsing, which is almost entirely based on single core performance, which apple wins by a large margin compared to every cpu other than overclocked intel housefires using 10x the wattage

i do it too. as an example: the only thing i care about, with a single caveat, is end to end latency. i do not care about power, or security, or compatibility even. i literally only care that my input is put on screen in full as fast as possible.

they're very efficient, a big plus for portable machines, macbooks are quite nice.
i agree on desktops though, not much of a point there
