Discord obliterated everything on the open net; reddit, 4chan, tumblr, everything. Even Xitter is chilled by it.
Why chat on the clear net when some ai bot or obsessed doxxer will scrape your convos, as well as interject themselves into your business? Why, why bother? Easier discoverability has become a double edged sword to the modern individual.
>But bots and stalkers can scrape discord servers with an invite anyways and discord itself sells your data!
No shit, i never said it was a good solution, or even sustainable, just the victor.
You get video upload, an un-algorithmโd feed (very rare In todayโs world), the only ads you get are discord related, and you can instantly chat with local admins if thereโs a problem. That makes it way more frictionless than reddit or here.
People follow the path of least friction.
And the path of least friction was using the shady slack clone to rebuild the webโs communities in a slightly more gatekept fashion, whoopedy fucking do.
