Zoomers will never understand how based computers used to be
Computers used to be great. Even just starting them up used to be an entire event. It was both exciting and calming all at the same time.

Now, modern PCs startup within 10 seconds after which you're constantly bombarded with ads every 30 seconds.

i think its wrong to have nostalgia THAT far back. i loved the internet/computers when it was just closed off "secret club" forums, passionate people making stuff like myself. you dont need to go back that far back for when it was great.
the feelings you describe here about it being exciting and calming was just the novelty of it all. but you are totally right they wont get that feeling of discovery because theres phones, laptops lying around everywhere

> I think it's wrong
Using computers used to be a calm solitary experience which led directly to mastery on a deep level. Normies were nowhere to be found. The fact is, if you weren't smart or at least patient, early computers were not for you.
This meant that computer culture was, by default, filled with smart or at least interesting people.
So, yes, you do have to go back that far, because after 1995 all of that began dying. The culture held on until 2007, when centralized social media and the smartphone took over and obliterated everything.
Now we live in Retard World.

I'm barely old enough to remember the internet of the 00s before smartphones and social media ruined everything.
Holy shit it was so much better back then.
It really did all go to shit after 2009. Big time. That's the year when the internet became the complete pile of enshittified garbage that it is today.

The internet just fundamentally felt like a different place before Facebook, Twitter and iPhones became popular. That's when hundreds of millions of normies and third worlders came online, and they rapidly drowned out the culture of the old internet.

Well, that's not necessarily true for every zoomer. I learned PDP-8 assembly as late as mid 90's just for the sake of it (the machine had long obsoleted by then but I never touched a switch panel before so I thought it'd be interesting), and along with it I had to get acquainted with other aspects of the mini just to get it to an operational state.

A zommer can (and much more easily so) pick up legacy pc's from eBay, learn about them and enjoy them.

He paid people to create a mod of LadyHavoc’s DarkPlaces that is some sort of schizophrenic world building FPS quake clone.
LadyHavoc revoked his license due to his insane stalking and harassment campaign against her. He has subsequently found his mod banned from nearly every quake mod hosting site on the internet.
Last time he tried posting a link here it was some random filesharing site. Nobody will click and download the game.

because theres no magic?
OP describes a feeling where it was special because it was new.
that means, me, we, grew up for like 14 years or whatever with no technology. so when we did finally get to interact with some, it didnt matter how slow or shit it was, it was all so new and amazing.

a zoomer is never feeling that, from birth, he has screens and devices available. all super fast, no patience has to be nurtured or developed. no prolonged satisfaction. he will never know what it was like before.

heres an exercise you can do, think of an ordinary object around you, like a pen. completely boring and normal too right? zzzzz?
well think about how you would feel as someone using a pen for the first time, back then?

You need to go way further back than 1993 if you want computers to be a secret club of passionate people again. That ended sometime in the early 80s. The computer industry has been commercialized to hell since the early 90s and the internet since the late 90s.

Nigga, the UK had the BBC Micro program in the early 80s to try and get the UK caught up to the USA in technology. The government purchased millions of pounds of PCs and also hosted TV shows for more than a decade. 8-bit computers were mainstream in the USA by 1985 when you could buy an Atari or Commodore 8-bit PC for less than $200.

Why do the Russians push this bullshit so hard? The current situation with hardware and especially GPUs is pretty bleak but we have fast computers and internet, and access to like decades of software and games. We can just plug in whatever shit we want into our PCs and it will probably work without bothering with jumpers and installing drivers manually.

You just miss your youth. That is all.

I'm not bombarded with ads. that's a luser problem.

If you crave that startup experience you can build a desktop with a floppy drive. Not hard and doesn't require a floppy header since USB exists.

You can even get one of those Gateway AT tower cases and do what casemodders did at the time and stick modern guts therein. I still have one I upgraded to an ATX Soyo motherboard and a PIII 1.2GHZ though I don't use it.

>you're constantly bombarded with ads every 30 seconds.

Anyone serious would block the adverts or simply avoided ereaders since they were not available that far back. I'm not bombarded with anything since I know how to use a computer.

Paranoia is a delusion of personal importance. Your real security is that nothing you will ever do or be will ever be important. Why do you imagine you need "security" from all these spies? The voices in your head will end if you kill yourself.

Uncle Sugar pays me and is welcome to watch whatever I do because I would never be stupid enough to use a computer for "secure" comms, but your lot craves that too intensely to simply not do that.

Yes you can. Search engines and AI still don't accurately replace expert knowledge. Even outside of deep knowledge or esoteric minutia that hasn't been widely discussed online, there are often knowledge and contexual pre-requisites to even knowing the right question to ask a search engine/AI and understanding the result you get.

Nah, that's bullshit. You had TVs, phones, the radio, tons of buzzing and whirring electronic things and gadgets. If you grew you in the second half of the 20th century, you had more access to breaking news from all around the world, more easily accessible music stored in tapes/compact discs, more books, etc. than literally any generation in history. You say you didn't grow up with technology, but really technology is any kind of human invention, so your ass is fucking lying.

You will never be a boomer. You have no pithy one-liners, you have no retirement properties, you have no riding lawnmower. You are an IPA-chugging sóyboy twisted by finasteride and SomethingAwful into a crude mockery of society's wisest.

All the “respect” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back zoomers mock you. Real boomers are still embarrassed and ashamed of you, your parents laugh at your pitiable net worth behind closed doors.

Zoomers are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of years of evolution have allowed the youth to sniff out poseurs with incredible efficiency. Even millennials who “made it” come off as insecure and simply lucky to a zoomer. Your mail-order gook wife is a dead giveaway. And even if you two manage to get to old age without divorcing, she’ll turn around and get power of attorney over you to throw you in a nursing home the second you forget where you put your car keys.

You will never be happy. You smile through back pain every single morning and tell yourself you're better than stupid zoomers, but deep inside you feel the depression creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.

Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll shut the garage door, turn your car on, put Jar of Flies on full blast, and plunge into the cold abyss. Your little siblings and nephews will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment. They'll sell off your Funko Pop and anime girl figurine collections for a fraction of what you paid for them, and every collectible scalper who tries making a buck off them for the rest of eternity will know a millennial manchild was their first owner. Your body will decay and go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is a microplastic-saturated skeleton that is unmistakably more frail and underdeveloped than any of your predecessors.

This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.

- most ledditors are millennials.
- millennials created spotify, facebook and a lot of other evil tech companies.
- most "oldfags" on 4chin do nothing to save their dying website because they would rather brag about how they are superior because... they just are, okay?
- millennials refused to reject the hell of modern computing, known as "mobile devices", and now blame zoomers for the same thing, just like they refused to do something about boomers ruining economy and xoomers ruining human relationships.
