I would rather buy something than have a fucking ads and spyware. You know that you actually "buy windows license" if you buy a prebuilt or laptop? Windows is not "free" unless you assembled your PC from parts and got your iso from whatever place.

Microsoft benefits from not gatekeeping the system from "pirates", because it's better for them if more people use Windows rather than Linux. These people probably use Windows for work which means their business computer has a license paid by their employer. If more people used Linux at some point employers would do too. It's basically costs saving so there is at least one argument for it.

Businesses carry Windows for us, they fork over far more money for licenses than the average Jane and Joe combined ever will. A lot like mobile games where "whales" carry the game and its development for "dolphins" and the F2P bottom-feeders.
