SSD health CrystalDiskInfo
do SSD's suck? should people go back to HDDs?

My health is getting low. Where the heals at?
Anonymous No.106501700 [Report] >>106501847

I don't know, I boughted buyed a new nvme year ago and was using W10. Its health rapidly declined every single month.
Now I changed to W11 (same fixed swap size etc, partitions are the same) it has stayed at the same 90% for months. Is still read and write about the same amount as always.

Not sure if crystal disk info can actually be trusted.

No, all SSDs do not suck.
Cheap SSDs that lack DRAM and rely on SLC caching while having QLC NAND have advertised short TBW lives. It is all on the box. Do your research and don’t buy the cheapest SSDs. Or any SSD with QLC NAND without DRAM (VolitileWroteCache)
Anonymous No.106501745 [Report]
>>106501674 (OP)
That’s actually pretty good for a QLC NAND SSD. Samsung FTW.
Micron or anything cheaper would already be dead.

My 860 Evo 500GB still at 93%, despite it hosting the os (win 10), browser and other software.
Anonymous No.106501937 [Report]
>>106501909
The Samsung Evo 860 series uses DRAM cache and does not use QLC NAND. OP is either ignorant or a poorfag and bought their QLC SSD without DRAM and it has a much lower TBW lifespan. However, it has significantly outlived much cheaper QLC NAND offerings from competitors. Impressive work by Samsung.

Almost 11 years of dependable service. I'd say SSDs are pretty great.

>Do SSDs suck?
Most SSDs suck. Samsung produces high quality SSDs and is an exception.
>Should people go back to HDDs?
No. HDDs are slow as fuck. Modern operating systems don't work very well on HDDs. Dedicate your whole SSD to your OS and use an HDD for storing personal files.
>>106502626
>I've had numerous HDDs brick
Skill issue. I have a 15 year old ATA HDD that still works fine. I have never had an HDD failure but I experienced a very bad SSD failure.

QVO goes down to 5200rpm hdd speeds after 400mb of operations. If its not for archival purposes avoid it.

I'll be sure not to do that, since it'll never happen anyway. Don't forget to keep 100% of your shit updated within 2 milliseconds of it being available, or something bad will definitely happen.

Then it should be fine. Moving files will take a long time at 70mb/s.
I myself would get a tlc at the worst (instead of qlc) if they are not 1.5-2x more expensive. Although brand quality is important as well.

You can't boot any decent, modern OS reliably with HDD nowadays. Best you can do is just have one small SSD for your OS and a few HDDs for storage.
