Idk I installed linux mint and when I press restart, the logo loads for 10 mins, get a wall of text and nothing happens. I have to hold the powerbutton down everytime I want to close my computer. This is annoying. Chatgpt said its because im using a dumb HP laptop.

Are you using nvdia gpu? I had a similar problem in an old hp laptop. maybe the driver is broken. I'm using a thinkpad for over a year now and had zero issues so far.

No everything works perfectly, I just have to press the power button after shutting it off. If I start it up, my computer runs it perfectly.
I posted this yesterday, it just shows this but doesn't actually shut off. I left it running the entire night.

>Next, when I shut down the system, the monitor screen goes black but does not power off and the computer stays running.

this seems like your problem no? in his last post he says
>Regardless, it seems all is well now with just the BIOS update so thinking I'll leave well enough alone. As of late, the machine appears to Shut down, Suspend, hibernate, and restart just fine. That wasn't the case before the BIOS update.

so maybe you need to update your firmware/bios/uefi. go to the bios and check the bios version, then go to HPs page for your laptop model and checkif there's a new version. ive done this for my MSI desktop motherboard im sure its similar for a laptop they have a manual on how to do it.

Meh, I'm not familiar with WINE yet and HP only gives updates for windows 11.

you should be able to update bios regardless of operating system iirc you put it on a flash drive, put the flash drive in and hit the update option inside the bios.

here i found this on their website but you need to do this or go to the model page.

Apparently my BIOS is already up to date.
These problems came after I updated everything. When Linux was fresh installed without any updates, I could shut off and restart just fine.

How do you fail at installing Linux Mint? The installer carries you the whole way through.

Reinstall and make sure you partitioned it correctly. Since it's Mint there is an option to automatically do it. Also, could be your SSD is corrupted. I'd blame shitdows for that though.

Or you could stop being a fucking pussy and install Arch.
Anonymous No.106505870 >>106506067
Had the exact same thing happen to me after I installed Arch for the lulz.

>used archinstall because I'm a scrub
>finally got to desktop
>ran neofetch
>installed all the updates
>restarted to make sure I didn't fuck anything up
>GUI decides to Kurt Cobain itself and I can't sign in anymore

I just now realized while I was typing this that I was using "sudo apt-get update" instead of "sudo pacman -Syu" because I was so used to Linux Mint. I'm fucking retarded, somebody please just shoot me in the face.
