Recommendations for improving cybersecurity
I've been interested in cybersecurity for a while.

I'm proficient in basic networking and Linux usage, but I'm not sure how to proceed.

I'm currently progressing through Hack the Box Academy and looking for your suggestions.

Why do you think so? Can you be a little more explanatory? Because I still think it's a very open-ended sector.

ntoa but infosec writeups has been flooded with pajeets so I assume that's the state of the whole sector

I understand, but I want to enter this industry, so I will continue to improve myself no matter what.

It's not hard to be superior to 85 IQ street shitters.
My only advice is to build a homelab and practice.
Keep at it fren, best of luck.

Pentesting is dead.
Get A+ certs and join a pajeet SOC company. Where you spend your shifts staying up overnight with your unwashed Jeet coworker who talks loudly on the phone to his relatives and still stinks up the kitchen and bathroom with his curry.
Wait, why can't I work remotely?
It's because king jeet needs to see his slaves.

cybersecurity jobs are fluff for companies, they get cut when trimming and get hired during low interest rate growth periods. Right now we're in a recession.

Learn protocols. Pick a protocol, pull it apart.
>DHCP: learn the DORA process, learn about scope options
>HTTP: learn the basic methods, learn status codes, learn how to fuck w/ headers, learn how to parse basic stuff like base64 encoding, urlencoding
>DNS: learn the record types, learn how DNS actually works, learn how to force a lookup, learn about TTL
A lot of infosec is knowing about tangential, semi-related things and having enough to know "hey, this doesn't look right".
A LOT of foreign infosec are just process monkeys that can't think on their feet and freeze when confronted with ambiguity
Be able to explain your process, from beginning to end.

That's because they just monkey see, monkey do copy/paste from somebody else's writeup.
