Im considering going to DEFCON in 2026. Has anyone been there before? Is it worth the hype?

I was a goon (senior staff) from dc 8 to dc 24. It's a lot of fun. Some suggestions
>use cash
>don't let defcon be your first encounter w/ recreational drugs/shrooms/whatever
>talk to people
>don't be a dick
>take a laptop you can re-image when you get home
>check out the villages, learn stuff
>be prepared to wait in line
>don't fuck w/ hotel infra
>think about staying off property (I saw the feds product demand letters to get hotel records at the Alexis Park and again at the Riviera)
>that cute girl that's totally into what you are into, is probably an a foreign adversary
>if you're a fed, don't leave your gun and badge in a backpack under a chair (happened twice)

I've seen 2 hotels implement some sort of mandatory room checks during defcon. But their opsec was shitty.
>anon, we need to inspect your room
>they come in, look around
>pick up the phone, dial a code, hang up
>turns out, that code worked for every room in the hotel and was the "reset the daily room check" code
You have to worry about evil maid.
Still, if you're going to connect, tether via USB from laptop to phone, ride cellular to the outside world.
But, back at dc 23 or 24, in the hotel's NOC we saw a cell site walking up and down the strip. Some fucker had a home made (?) stingray and was walking up and down the strip. Never figured out who. He was smart enough to turn it off before he got close to convention property.

Should I dress up a Neo from the matrix? Also what distro? Usually I rock Windows, but maybe thinking of rocking Kali, I want to really drive home how hardcore I am. People need to know not to mess.

Don't bring any devices. Just say you code in your brain, like Neo

When on staff, I stayed in on property because DT (jeff moss) was footing the bill. I paid for all my drinking in cash. And I used cash machines off property.
>one year, at the Riviera, found a rogue cash machine
>kiosk looked "off"
>inside was a regular desktop pc chassis w/ wires & shit poking out
>key observation: it lacked certain indicators that said hotel had approved the cabinet
>alert hotel security
>"dammit, another one?!"
>they setup watch
>popped the guy when he came to "service" the machine
Turns out casinos don't like it when you do shit like this.

This year was really odd.
>DT on stage, fellating The Man
>defcon started with a strong "fuck The Man" vibe
>but I guess the founders got old and need jobs
>so...defcon hosts Nakasone and another NSA spook and "yay feds!"

its a glownigger meetup its 90% feds or fed aligned shills so if your goal is to learn how to be a glownigger its a good move. Also lots of trannies. Supposedly the german conferences by the CCC are better somehow I doubt that.
Don't get me wrong I like hacker culture but we have to be honest what this shit is nowadays about.

defcon meant something in the early 00's... now it's full of zoomers and retards who treat it more like a festival than what it once was

>Take the worst parts of an anime con, add furries and other degenerates, identity politics, trans activists, junkies and some of the most obnoxious people in ITsec, throw in corpo shills and feds (in the open) for good measure
Defcon is dead, or rather should have died in the mid 2000s.

>2 trannies with 5 o clock shadows where in a room with children
>I look disturbed and angry at them
>they spot me and intermediately walk me out of the room claiming this is a children's area.
>I saw through their bullshit
Fuck DEFCON and this leftist tranny story hour bullshit. Pedophilia should not be tolerated.

In one case, we looked up the agent's phone number (staff member knew somebody in the guy's office), and called him.
staff: "we've got your badge and gun"
agent: "bring it to me"
staff: "heh, no, you come to defcon NOC, with photo identification"
agent: "bring it to me"
staff: "ok, we'll just call the local field office and have them send it to your field office"
agent: "on my way, where are you again"
