I think it might be an issue related to females. Ex gf broke her installation two times trying to get fucking steam out of all things working. Apparently I magically installed Flatpak + Steam after that because "it wasn't working before when she tried it". My original argument was that if one TRULY wanted their SO to use Linux, it would be trivial to use the web version of whatever stupid electron app they use in their day to day life, for those rare exceptions that there isn't even a flatpak version at least.
I don't expect someone to do this for everyone as a means of evangelizing people to linux, just saying that it's not that difficult to make the experience as painless as possible for someone close to you, if you're really adamant about them using it.

When my wife was still in school, it was either deal with her AIDS infested windows laptop that never fucking worked right or repurpose an old laptop, throw Ubuntu on it, and lock it down with only Libreoffice, Chromium, printing, and our house WiFi, that's it. Type in your fucking papers, save your drafts, etc, when done, submit them and print a copy and put it in this folder so you have a failsafe hardcopy. You can though? Tons of developers offer .deb, .rpm, flatpaks and/or appimages for their apps. Package managers and repos are just convenient ways to quickly install something without having to hunt it down. I will admit that running into dependency issues is total inexcusable bullshit but flatpak and appimage basically solve this.
