Some days it doesn't even go over 12...
I ran my server on 8GB for about a month until I could get a good 2nd hand kit and it was fine for general computing, web browsing etc.

I bought 2x32gb of ddr5 that I can get up to 6000mhz back when the 12900k came out and ive used to same 2 sticks ever since, its been like 3 years and theyre still considered overkill I'm pretty happy. I only come close to using 64gb when compiling stuff lol

16 GB is what they give you for free with a new laptop.

It's more about the peeks rather than average usage, if you peek high like me I sometimes use multiple VMs at the same time. then more than 16gb is better.
If all you do is use a web browser then 16 gb is more than enough.

If you don't play vidya yes.
But I occasionally play rust and with 16gb and usual stuff it was swapping like crazy.
Upgraded ram and actual ram usage with viday in background is now ~24mb.

16GB for vram is the minimum for GPU but you need 20+GB vram to run decent models.
