5060 ti is simply a little bit faster than 9060 XT in many gpu bound titles kys shill that chart is irrelevant. AMD GPU + CPU provides the most benefit in CPU bound games due to less overhead on nvidia cards and SAM helps with better frametime stability. AMD engineers have themselves said there are specific optimizations with SAM when it is both an AMD CPU and GPU.

The FPS difference between similar tiers of Intel/AMD CPUs is basically a run-to-run variation.

>disabling hyperthreading cores makes the cache shared to less logical processors

>Getting almost 50fps in WoW in areas I used to drop as low as 30

I was like super close to buying a 9800X3D which would have required a new motherboard, new cooler, new RAM, and new SSD (current Samsung 960 EVO 500GB is at 39% health). Now it looks like my 9900k just isn't gonna die. Honestly I think I'll end up just building an entirely new build, GPU included when Intel releases their 3D cache competitor to AMD's 3D stuff.

You'll be spoiled for choice next year, but Zen 6 is more likely to be a good chip than Intel's Nova Lake
You should also overclock the memory to improve FPS. Intel CPUs scale well with memory OCs.

my Memory kit is unfortunately pretty shit for overclocking, but fantastic for timing tuning. I had a first generation Ryzen back when Ryzen was extremely picky about memory kits. It's a G-skill 2x16GB kit of Samsung B-die 3200Mhz @ 14-14-14-34 timings. I was able to get it down to 3200MHz @ 12-12-12-32 with stock voltage. Will not OC past 3600MHz even if I feed it stupid voltage. I have a Patriot Viper kit of 4400MHz CL19 memory in my closet but it's only 2x8GB and games/Windows uses so much RAM these days, I don't wanna downgrade to 16GB
>Zen 6 vs Nova Lake
I'm just hoping Intel brings something with 3D on die cache that beats AMD in some way, even if it's only more cache. I know AMD has 96MB of cache but I remember reading somewhere Intel was floating ideas of 144MB cache and MMO's LOVE that cache, so I'm going to buy the best option for WoW.

It's likely because the 9900k just sucks at handling dual rank sticks and z390 and z370 boards prefer four slots, and not your memory sticks that are the problem. 4x8gb b-die will fly on your 9900k if you have an MSI or Asus board. Gigabyte board has problems training memory speeds faster than 3800mhz
Anyway most of the gain with memory oc can be had from tightening timings like trrd_s, trrd_l, tfaw, tRFC and tREFI

I like matx. It's easy to build smaller machines, but you've usually got at least one PCIe slot available for expansion needs. It also avoids the ITX tax. ATX is great, but a lot of them are built in an odd way, where populating all the m.2 will turn off all your PCIe slots, which sorta defeats the purpose of having the slots IMO.

Right now I'm just using a basic laptop, but when I do upgrade I want the best consumer-grade components on the market for gaming and video editing. I haven't upgraded yet because I'm not completely satisfied with the 5090's performance and the power cable being a fire hazard. The most powerful gaming CPU's AMD 9800x3d and 9950x3d lack QuickSync. That's why I think it's better to just wait for the 6090's release so I can see how it compares and determine if the higher price is worth the extra performance or if it makes more sense to settle for something cheaper. I'm hoping that Intel will release another flagship CPU that beats AMD's flagship not too long before or after the 6090's so I can pick a clear winner. AMD does not have QuickSync or something equivalent as far as I know. You may wonder why I care so much about QuickSync. Because I intend to spend a lot of time learning and using DaVinci Resolve. I want that to be a smooth experience when I finally spend the time and money building a system I've been holding off for so long. One of my concerns is that I get unlucky with the "silicon lottery" where components fail/die prematurely. I'm especially concerned with the more expensive parts. Can you conservatively estimate lifespan for the various component types assuming I have optimalized cooling? Speaking of cooling I think custom watercooling should be optimal, but I'm unsure if the extra price and hassle will be worth the potential increased longevity and performance. What are your thoughts?

Set a minor undervolt to the processors, and they'll run cooler. The factory-fused V/F tables for the processors are slightly overvolted.

24Gb (3GB) GDDR7 chips weren't readily available for a 24GB 5080 launch model.
NVIDIA was prioritizing those VRAM for workstation cards until memory supplies improved.

>Is this Nvidia's new marketing tactic?
NVIDIA's refresh cards are usually a reaction against Radeon's.
9070 non-XT has better performance with 16GB, so the 5070 gets a slightly better-binned chip with 18GB total VRAM.
9070 XT competes very well against the 5070 Ti, so it gets 24GB VRAM
5080 was initially planned with 24GB variants in mind.

From my simple google search of reddit answers, quicksync only had hevc 10 bit 4:2:2 decoding accerleration. The new nvidia rtx 5000 series gpus have that feature nowdays so I don't think it is important to get intel quicksync.

If you want fast scrubbing of the timeline you need: pcie 5.0 nvme and lots of system RAM.

CPU: Intel core 285k
Ram: 128 GB ddr5
Storage: 4TB WD SN8100

Now, depending on what effects you are doing to the video you may need a dedicated gpu.

High quality footage or renders are going to be in a lossless format that has massive bitrates so storage and ram are important.

Way I see it, it's entirely dependent on whether someone is after MAXIMUM FRAAAAMES and shit like the highest level raytracing, frame gen and upscaling shit, or if you want something that's more power efficient for wider setup scalability, still gets the job done quite well for basically anything you throw at it short of RT or games so badly optimized that they need the bestest upscaling ever. Or for people that chug 4K gaming like an energy drink and expect anything but the beefiest of the beef to keep up with no issue, and even then 9070 XT is nothing to scoff at. For the price value, MSRP or scaled up in comparison to the 5070 Ti, it's definitely down to preferences and user builds.
Plus, y'know, less fuss with NVIDIA drivers as of late which are too focused on AI with the 50-series forwards over proper performance upkeep.

9950 / 9950x3d is slightly slower than the 285k in encoding and adobe benchmarks.
The real advantage would be able to move down the road to a zen 6 cpu with 24 core / 48 threads.

The zen 5 cpus are difficult to get working with 128GB of ram from what I hear. Maybe that has changed with a new agesa version? idk.

I'm also not sure if the igpu can even do basic tasks so you would want to get a dedicated gpu.

like i said though, it depends on what you are editing. If you are editing VR videos or high fps 4k videos, the lossless filesizes are going to be massive (1.4 Gb/s) and eat up ram so you want 128GB of ram.

Considering the quality jump at the expense of not being as efficient for performance, something is telling me the GPU division just isn't getting quite the push they should be just to really pull the lead out. Doesn't help that FSR4 is barely supported either, forcing you to go all Optiscaler or simply get fucked by FSR3, if you're even playing something that supports that too.

Few game devs want to patch their old titles that have passed their peak revenue/support cycle.
But AMD added an FSR4 override option with their latest driver (with a few limitations).
I would worry if FSR4 isn't getting support for new games, but that doesn't seem to be the case..

Looking for a good AM5 motherboard to be used for 24/7 PC homeserver operation. I need the following features:
- At least 2 PCIe x8 or x16 gen 4 or 5 ports working at full speed to CPU.
- At least 1-2 m.2 slots for SSDs
- At least 128 GB DDR5 RAM (ECC or non-ECC)

For the RAM I don't understand the concept of dual channel. I think it's usually advised to put DIMMs in half the slots and not put an uneven number of DIMMs. But what if I want to have 192 GB RAM, I would have to put 6*32 and populate all 6 slots for example. Will I get bad performance from that ?

Alright fellas I've been asked to put together a parts list for a consolefag friend of mine looking to get into PC gaymin, but I could use some help myself since I've only done this once before.
He's a burger and the budget is $3000. However, there's a non-zero chance he gets filtered by the "complexity" of PC gaming (he is completely tech illiterate, to the point where operating a file manager without guidance intimidates him) so I want to keep this a bit cheaper just in case he figures out PC isn't for him. Maybe more like $1500-2000 or so.
I think keeping the OS and games separate is a good idea just in case he fucks something up, that way he can reinstall Windows without nuking his games library in the process. I was thinking a 500GB SSD for the OS at first but looking at prices it seems like you may as well just get a 1TB for nearly the same price. And then either a 2TB or a 4TB SSD for his vidya, still waiting to hear from him regarding how much space he reckons he'll need. I've just picked a 4TB one for now.
Here's what I have right now https://pcpartpicker.com/list/X8qkNz
Anything turbo retarded picks that stand out? The PSU might be a bit overkill, but I figure if he ever wants to upgrade it's better to just swap out the GPU instead of having to redo all the power cables and swapping in a more powerful PSU. He's not gonna be building this thing himself after all so the simpler the better. For the GPU I just went with what I have myself since it's been good in my experience. No qualms about doing a 5070 Ti instead though. Brandwarring is gay and the guy who is going to be using this box doesn't even know what they are anyway.

It goes deeper. Nvidia has MPO issues for ages now. Proper MPO usage allows the GPU to idle since the display controller is doing the work instead of the memory controller or shader units. AMD fixed this with their "radiant display engine" but they have their own issues like RDNA2 and below being fucked.
Anonymous No.106546921

i believe this actually. one major new "feature" of the 50 series is that nvidia has split the core voltage and memory voltage and they control them independent of each other. i figured this would fix a lot of previous generation issues with desktop power usage but it actually just made everything worse

Conclusion: 2026 as the Turning Point

The second half of 2026 will mark a pivotal clash between AMD and Intel.

AMD Zen 6: Power-efficient, upgrade-friendly, built on advanced TSMC nodes.
Intel Nova Lake: Bold new design, extreme multi-core scaling, but costly platform shift.
Arrow Lake Refresh serves as a stopgap, while the real battle will be fought between Zen 6 and Nova Lake. For users, this means exciting choices ahead in desktop, workstation, and data center computing.

The question is clear: Will efficiency and platform stability win, or will raw core power and architectural reinvention dominate?

I'd honestly just prefer a reachable button to unlock the GPU. It's a rather bothersome gimmick as it's hard to tell when the GPU is truly unlocked. I removed my current GPU twice or thrice so far but didn't see any damage but I have no need anymore in the near future to do so. It will last till AM6 is matured as other anons pointed out already it's cosmetically only and in worst case chipping off a bit of the PCIe connector only. It would reduce the resell value but I'm the kind of person who builds a whole new PC instead of upgrading and then uses the old one as backup.

well on the bright side there was a new change in what will be 26h2 i think that improves MPO for multi monitor configs

naturally it's a "gradually rolling out" feature so nobody even knows if they have it yet although i asked a microsoft employee how to know if you have it and this was their answer

"They can use Game Bar to monitor the FPS of their app on the non-primary, high refresh rate, screen. It should go above the primary monitor's refresh rate now even when it's being composed."

I hope it fixes all the shit wrong with MPO

currently if you are playing a game on a "composed flip" screen, aka a screen that is not your primary monitor, it is still limited by the max refresh rate of your primary monitor. say i have a 4k 240hz oled as my second monitor and a 4k 160hz ips as my main. i move the game from my main to the oled. the max fps will still be 160hz. with this change it should go up to 240hz without changing the primary monitor (in theory).

The reason I chose an APU was because I don't care too much about graphics. The only game I play is Minecraft every now and then with my friends. I'll be daily driving Gentoo, too. I considered going with the Ryzen 5 8600G, but decided to upgrade and get the extra cores because I do lots of multi-tasking (IntelliJ, Docker, local hosting some servers for short periods of time, databases, etc.)
>that seems crazy
Yeah that's what I was thinking. Felt like a little much for an APU build, but I did opt to go for higher quality stuff. I was originally going to go for the ASRock motherboard, but then I read about the CPU degradation issues. So I looked into other options and found the Gigabyte B650M Gaming Plus Wifi, but read reviews of shitty bluetooth/wifi performance and driver issues. So I changed it to the B850M Eagle, which had better reviews and not many issues for $30 more.

there are some insane deals on s95f's right now too for massive savings (can sell this soundbar off for a few hundred) so it's a shame. if samsung supported dolby vision they'd be my go-to brand because of qd-oled.

AMD has 16 core running two threads of work simultaneously. The second thread that's run on each core is slower than the first, increasing overall performance by about 30-40% dependant on workload.
Intel has 8 cores and 16 slower cores each running a single thread of work. Each thread has full performance here but intel has fewer threads.
In most benchmarks, the 9950x3d leads by a couple percent while in some, the 285k is faster so they're effectively about the same. Except in gaming where the 9950x3d is much faster.

That isn't the win you think it is, Navi 31 is almost 2x larger than the full GB205,

I want to min/max single threaded performance on a budget:
>intel 12700k [same TDP as 12600k but more cores]
>disable E-cores
>disable 2x P-cores to reduce thermal load
>put a giant-ass cooler on the chip
>overclock it as high as possible
would this even work or should I just get a 12600k instead?

is supposed to be ray reconstruction and machine learning frame generation, right now AMD pathtraced and raytracing looks terrible outside of lumen software and hardware because it cant denoise any lighting, (lumen is mostly indirect lighting and hardware lumen just adds an extra bounce) also their framegen has no temporal data (like nvidia smooth motion or loseless scaling) as its a driver level frame gen solution

>Lying that Polaris wasn't a 1060 competitor
480 was cheaper than 1060 and offered the same performance in dx11 and better in dx12. Nvidia even lowered the price of 1060 because they felt threatened by it. Kill yourself shill.

nigga what? amd had to rebrand and overclock it and call it the 580 for it to finally beat the 1060 which was faster for the lifetime of the cards. the launch was heavily criticised because the 1060 was like 15% faster because of shit amd drivers.

I guess in Cyberpunk the 9070xt is within 10% of a 5070 with pt, that would be playable with ray reconstruction at like 720p internal
But fun fact : On amd cards pt isn't the same as pt with Nvidia gpus, it's automatically cut back with no way to change it. Only reason the 9070/xt are able to get controller friendly framerates

The things is that performance is not real, most of the 9070 XT PT performance comes down to the card actually not being able to render or denosie lighting properly while nvidia cards have to denoise it which tanks your fps.

nah it has not dipped hard, it will go down to 1400Β£ in direct bong conversion here on BF for the 55"

better brightness, 165hz, but one connect box and matte

I might return monitor and cop a S90D instead at this point

I've seen the s95f irl and Idk I think I prefer QD over WOLED on TVs always I mean the G5 did not look bad either, idk, I could not run some HDR Demo material without the wifi buffering in the store

AMD literally doesn't have a way to actually denoise path tracing. This is just a hard fact. In cyberpunk reflections and specifically lighting inside of reflections is somehow further gimped, I guess that could also be a denoising type issue somehow but I don't really see how that would actually work.
Go watch comparisons of a 9070xt vs 5070ti or something and look closely on the section comparing pt results (assuming it's not just like "stock" footage they're using)
Even without rr being used on the nvidia card there's a difference

Okay and if it actually works you still have the issue of there not being a single amd card powerful enough to actually do pt or just heavy rt in a modern release.

And just to make it clear, even without the denoising amd cards in games with pt they either :
A - Don't render correctly (making them run faster)
or
B - Are slow enough not even upscaling will save the experience.
I guess the exception would be quake 2, but that's quake 2. And even then that looks like shit until you're at like 4k minimum
