Are chip makers scamming us?
Behold, we have an all new, performant and efficient node
>looks inside
>components need higher wattage to achieve better performance
>phone batteries are made bigger to achieve the same runtimes as phones on an older node
>vapor chambers are made bigger to get rid of "extra" heat

What gives, shouldn't a node shrink push us in the opposite direction?

Often performance per watt increases, however you're right to distrust companies that make profit off selling you a new product, they will hype it up to no end. This is better than companies living off subscriptions though

As soon as performance of hardware increases, they're instantly using that as an excuse to proportionally hire more jeets until the program runs as the same speed as on the older hardware. Now hardware is locked in to the new performance and can't optimize efficiency instead lest they be labelled as slow.
