This. We in the Based and Redpilled Movement love all the newest stuff. I have an iPhone 17 Pro Max with Apple AirPods Max and a top of the line LG C9 OLED TV powered by AI and Google Gemini. Some might even say I’m the least transgender person alive. My subscription fees and Chinese technology exude raw masculinity.

The attachment you posted is something you are going to play about with for 5 minutes and get bored of quickly.
With obsolete tech I try not to look at it from rose tinted glasses. Example:
1. Windows 95 was bugged.
2. Windows XP looked too cartoonish
3. Windows 7 wasted your GPU to render aero
But you also need to weigh up the positives. There is no positive to having a small screen that gives you cancer and is a pain to convert your video signal to.

it’s easy as fuck to send signals to, animation originally designed to be rendered on a crt looks much better on a crt, and cancer isn’t real.

I do think it's kind of neat to keep alive and working but I find the obsession tiresome. Zoomers really fetishize it because it's emblematic of a time they barely touched and it feels alien to the sleek minimalism of 2010s tech. For me, I lived that time and modern tech is just better in basically every use case and that's most of what I see. If zoomers were forced to deal with 80s/90s tech as it was, they'd immediately realize it sucks by comparison and hope to return to current gen. It really just feels like how hipsters were obsessed with Polaroids after digital cameras were popular, or how film cameras even using EXPIRED film remain in vogue. It feels like a desperate attempt to reach for something outside the mainstream but the tech itself is just a medium and often a busted one, they could find the same unique expression with current gear but they don't know how to do it so they stick to 'the real equipment'. It all just seems like a circus to me.

Technology is just technology.
A proper tech enthusiast likes all of it, from the sewing machine to the microprocessor. Every machine and invention has its own speck of human ingenuity and it is cool to explore it.
"Fetishizing the New" (the definition is blunt but on point) is another thing entirely, it is less an objective interest into things/ideas and more of an attitude you assume to present yourself to the world as that type of person you want to be.

I sometimes 'fetishize' the Internet of old back when didn't need to solve a captachia ever time you open a new website up in a tab and when you didn't need a million throwaway email accounts to browse an post in various forums and when the UK and Australian were so technologically inept they effectively couldn't regulate and censor the Internet to death and back when m00t was the king of 9Gag.

Honestly who can blame me or anyone for that matter for doing that.

>>106551282
I certainly do appreciate modern SSD's being a thing and AMD's integrated graphics being good enough to not even need an eGPU in many cases less your doing 3D rendering and animation stuff but there is something to be said about the aesthetic SOVL that was common place back then, companies actually put effort into trying to make their products stand out.

the tube itself doesn't consume much power, while the acceleration voltage is high (~10-15KV and higher), the actual current is minuscule (less than 1mA).
now the real power hog is horizontal deflection, and the bigger or slimmer the CRT is (higher deflection angle), the more current is needed to deflect the beam to more extreme angles.
