Why is Windows 7 largely considered the best Windows version?

mostly because it was the last version of windows that came out before windows 8 and the zeitgeist never really recovered from windows 8. but don't be fooled, 7 was much worse than xp or 2000.

The majority of people are stupid.

64 bit software. It's the first modern windows in terms of software support. Pretty much any modern software you use to today, like OBS, was made for windows 7 originally.

xp64 was the sweet spot, supported up to 128GB ram (unlike 4GB of regular xp and pre-xp)
more bloated than pre-xp but less bloated than 7

It fixed most of the stability and compatibility issues of the earlier versions while retaining the parts of the UX design that people liked. Also before all of the telemetry and aggressive update crap.

Windows 7 is my favorite, W8 is only better because some programs still get updates for it, not MS security updates, but stuff like VMware which is a springboard to everything else. You have to hunt down older versions of VMware to run it on W7, it's been out of support for years, but even Steam still works with W7. If you have an old computer with more than 16GB of RAM then you can pretty much throw anything you want in a VM for practical use. You can reinstall the OS/VM infinite times when a program expires.

Why does this resolution still exist among modern laptops? Just why? Bloody asinine that there are people out there who still get screens like this given to them at their jobs or whatever. 1080p minimum is too hard for manufacturers to stick to or what? There can't be much of a cost difference these days, too. Or at least 1680 x 1050 as the minimum, sheesh.

Fixed in a single program. Windows 8.0 is the best Windows edition ever made. It's the only one that can run on worse machines than it's predecessor. It had no bloat yet, and all the quality of life was amazing to have. The task manager is a useless piece of crap on win7, but on w8 it worked and made the experience 10 times better. There's no reason to use w7 when w8.0 exists.

xp x64 edition came out in 2005, vista in 2006. few home users in 2005-2006 even had 4G of ram, so no, you didn't find it on home computers simply because those people didn't have a use for it. there was also naturally downsides to switching early on as well, given that you needed 64bit drivers and software compatibility wasn't identical, so only those who /really/ needed it used it. even many vista home computers shipped with 32bit versions, things only started to come 64bit by default around the 7 era (of prebuilt home user computers), but not because 7 did 64bit any better really, rather that it was simply more mature (more drivers, compatible software), and a use for it (computers shipping with 4G+ ram ootb)

It unironically is. Windows 10 UI was just someone using the fill tool in paint for making elements. It was entirely composed of black and white rectangles, which is ugly as shit. Windows 11 has shading and transparency. It's much more enjoyable to the eye.
