Very few people do that because of "must have new thing with New Things β„’", but yeah, it's based. Samsung asked for $60 for swapping the batteries of my friend's S20 FE. I thought that was great given how expensive eletronics are around here and the S20 is a hell of a smartphone.

lol yes.
Everything on android is run in it's own sandbox while on fucking linux all applications can access eachother's resources and even keylog or spy on your screen without ANY restrictions.

Data access controlls
Android : standard container permissions
Linux : what restrictiins ?

You are fucking retarded.
Sanboxing things in Linux is trivial while in phones you depend on app manufacturers well intentions and lots of the apps you probably use are proprietary.

I felt this exact thing when I changed the case (which I bought with the phone and never used before) and replaced the screen protector.
Brand new phone. I only wish I had factory-reset it for the full experience.
Battery still going strong THOUGH

No its worth it. My last battery had 300mah capacity before I replaced it with a stock 2800mah battery. It can finally last through a whole day now instead of 2 and a half hours without using it.

Serious question how are you changing your battery for $15? All the replacements I find are way more expensive*and* I have to deal with opening the phone too. Man I miss open back phones so much, this glue shit blows.

Very few people do it because they're told they can't. And the few that dig deeper than that don't want to risk breaking their phone.

It's worth it if you have a Lishen battery. If you have an Amperex battery, it's probably not worth it. Keep in mind that replacing the battery in the 4a is a pain in the ass. You have to remove the screen in order to access the screws, and it's really fragile, so there is a good chance of cracking it if you're not careful. If you get a new battery, make sure that you get one made by Sunwoda Electronic. They are the OEM that makes the original Pixel 4a batteries.

i found original one for like $25-$35, tad much since i paid $200 for the phone a few years ago (4a 5g)
i'll have to back up some data
i could also get a kit from ifixit but with shippiing it's like $55
i'm worried about hairdrying it to melt the glue
mine is at like 65% which is abysmal

It's why I like cases and screen protectors, despite the most obvious reason which is protecting my smartphone... it makes it fresh when you switch them up.

Not really, you also need to replace earpiece and microphone, those always get clogged with shit over time. Very cheap but sometimes quite hard to get to.

aliexpress batteries are around ~$15.
If you want to do it properly you also need back plate adhesive precut film and battery stripes, both at couple of bucks.
Need to heat up the back, I just use hair dryer then pry one corner with sucker and split the rest with old credit card.
Next if battery has stripes just remove them, if not heat up battery with hairdryer and gently pry out, some people wetting the area with alcohol but I never tried then. Clean residue install new battery adhesive stripes, install adhesive film carefully position backplate.
Watch out not to touch camera lenses with bare hands, best is to get sheet of camera protection adhesive from aliexpress also couple of bucks. All the repair shops tend to smear shit over camera lenses with their dirty fingers idk why they do that. They're very hard to clean but it's doable.

>security updates
didn't know anyone cared about those out of r3ddit. Like just use common sense.
Also major updates themselves are not that important, android is not like iphone where you drop behind couple of updates and major software stops working. Like whatsapp still works on android 4.1.

the problem is that
>all aliexpress batteries are the original sunwoda oem ones but with a different sticker glued on top of it
>most of them have the amperex serial number but are actually lishen cells
>you only figure out you've been scammed after having gone through all the pain in the ass that is replacing the battery on this phone
it's just not worth it to get a chinkshit battery for this phone, ifixit one is relatively expensive but they've confirmed to me via email that all their 4a batteries are amperex ones not impacted by the nerf.
luckily I didn't have to go through with this because my lishen battery got swollen and google support sent me a brand new non-refurbished 4a out of warranty for free, i might repair my old one at some point I guess but not anytime soon.
