Big search engines like Google and Bing are known to track what you search and share that info with advertisers, which is why a lot of people don’t feel totally free to search whatever they want anymore.

Here are a few I’ve come across. I’d love to hear what others are using too!

DuckDuckGo – Great for simple, untracked searches
Startpage – Delivers Google results without the profiling
Brave Search – Strong privacy with its own independent index
MyAllSearch – Clean interface with a focus on user privacy
Qwant – GDPR-compliant, with servers based in Europe
Yandex – Russian based search engine, has it's own crawler

I rotate between a few. No reason to only use one search engine. Also throw in some Searx instances, marginalia.nu, infotiger, and kagi and I think you got most of them. Bing and Yahoo as well.

Those aren't really alternative search engines anon. Here's an alternative search engine. The guy runs it on a 32 core Ryzen in his laundry room.

I like brave search. Decent results, has the discussions sections which are useful, the ai summaries are ok and list sources (and you can easily turn them off) and it has the ddg bangs too.
I don't like their browser though.

try not to search up shit that'll get them fedded
and avoid searching up shit that'll tie your identity with a instance or whatever

searx is also good but i don't have too much experience with it.
ps: there's a chance that it'll display a fucking dildo as a banner depending on the instance so tread carefully.

All search engines use the same shitty Google algorithm. Use AI instead.

What is seriously frustrating is that Google search could be godly if they removed all the malicious crap that runs in the background that is meant to make them more money from ads. Does anyone remember a few years ago when for a few hours search worked as intended and you could find what you were really searching for? It was amazing and tragic at the same time.

I’ve reviewed a few of the options listed, and the results are largely the same across the board. What I find frustrating, though, is the constant appearance of 'AI Suggestions.' I’d prefer to do my own searching without having snippets pushed at me. I get that this is the direction things are heading, but seriously—if I want an AI-generated summary, I’ll ask for one.

You are definitely not the only one. I can filter information quickly and don't want/need AI results, which are often poor summaries, sometimes flat-out wrong, and just slow down searches.

With adblock you lose the sponsored ones, but they still do the shit where it's 3 relevant videos and then 3 videos completely unrelated to the search query and then it repeats.
