Barely any phone allows you to lock the bootloader after installing a custom ROM, that massively increases the attack surface even for medium-skilled adversaries. Also the titan chip has shown that it's very resilient against attacks.

Because only google phones are both secure and let you re-lock the bootloader after installing a custom ROM. Ask other vendors to do the same.

legitmate question, but if you are schizo enough to buy a pixel phone specifically for grapheneOS, why cant u spend the 1 day of effort to switch to a bank that doesnt require you to have an app downloaded to interact with it? u can just have a credit card with a modest limit on it, carry that around instead of a debit card, and then deal with any banking on a pc/laptop

Google makes it very easy to unlock pixel bootloaders, by phone manufacturer standards anyway. A lot of custom roms only support pixels and maybe a handful of other phones.

Fairphone and Sony don't have a secure element that prevents spamming all possible PIN combinations.

I have like 6 banking apps and they all work.
Never had an app not work, even the stupid company protected shit like teams work in their sandboxed environment
The only things I've attempted that didn't work was using the smart watch that came with the pixel and google wallet (as far as using NFC for making payments)

Maybe, or perhaps the OS itself is perfectly sound and Google just doesn't give a shit because they designed a million backdoors into the thing anyway.

Honestly people should just get an iPhone 16E instead.

https://grapheneos.org/faq#future-devices

They will only support devices that have decent security features, not only for the stock OS but also available for alternative operating systems. Most other devices don't even support relocking the bootloader or don't have a secure element they can use (which without will make encryption with a non sophisticated password pretty much useless). At this point only google have devices that meet these requirements but they are working with another OEM to make their devices suitable for GrapheneOS as well. (Likely Motorola)

Reading between the lines and looking at dates makes it pretty obvious. Its not going to be nothing or samsung, so Motorola is the only other major android OEM they were even considering in the first place.

Don't blame Google or GOS...

NO OTHER HARDWARE MAKER

makes a phone which permits you to do full boot attestation. All others lock you out of flashing your own device keys so you can't lock your bootloader. Frankly it's criminal and all those phone makers ought to be forced to provide their previous smartphone customers for the last 15-20 years (however long each customer has been buying a particular brand's phone) an equal number of years worth of new FLAGSHIP PHONES at HIGHEST SPECS with full bootloader and device control given to the user. I look at Samstung as one specific example of arguably better-than-Pixel hardware but absolutely shit for owner rights.

Not only physical. An unlocked bootloader makes it much easier to compromise the system. Device integrity is just gone. No guarantees in what software is loaded at startup. Malware will be persistent and will survive a reboot.

Biggest demand. It's a no brainer.
GrapheneOS is for Android power uses
Power users usually don't use cheap chink phones.
And most flagship phones are a pain in the ass to root, meanwhile root access is a core feature of the pixel phones.

Yesterday I saw YouTube's alternative theater mode where the video takes the whole screen and you can place the comments on the side, but today I'm not getting that theater mode but the older one where the video simply expands horizontally.
How do I get the newer theater mode again?
