why do you need a keyboard when you can just talk into it ideally you'd have eye sensors as well for mouse control. probably want some form of glasses for the display

Why glasses when you can neural render directly to your visual cortex? Further, why directly to visual cortex instead of tapping into the brain and injecting programmed sequences of neuron firings to "know kungfu" directly in the consciousness?

Ok imagine this:
A laptop, but instead of a motherboard with computer parts, you have a docking slot where you plug in your phone and the laptop runs off that. Probably still want a separate battery since I'm not sure how a phone battery would fare with a larger laptop screen.

I've been kvetching about how inefficient software has become (landian self-perpetuating demand cycle to fuel hardware gainz to accomplish singularity) and when I bought a macbook air and realized I could emulate current-gen games with maybe a 25w power draw, I teared up a little bit.

I'm pretty sure if Apple released something like this at the price of the cheapest Macbooks, iToddlers would buy it in droves and hail it as the most revolutionary thing since the iPhone tho.

Cumbersome. Price. Locked into particular phone/dock setups; users could only buy certain devices, Motorola unable to easily explore other form factors.

>>106557975
Apple does have some patents where iPhones dock in place of a trackpad, iPads as notebook screens, and Macbooks that dock into iMac style screens. A throwback of sorts to the Powerbook Duo. But they know well enough what kind of design lock-in it would create for them.
At most they did release a keyboard dock for the original iPad. but it's useless for anything outside of the 3 iPads with the 30-pin connector.

When will we get a 4080 in this form? All of the adapters currently on sale relies on the CPU, I dont think any of them offer any real hardware acceleration.

I actually owned an Atrix and the lapdock. It was hot fucking garbage to actually use. Instead of just giving you android but larger and with a WM, it booted you into a custom Linux distro any time you docked it. It then also mirrored your phone in a little window so it was essentially running android and Linux at the same time. The phone was not powerful enough to do this. It was a laggy, stuttering mess. I wanted to like it, the lapdock itself felt super premium in-hand and the concept was solid but in practice it was unusably bad.

On the flipside, being able to carry a microHDMI cable and just have it seamlessly plug n play mirror to basically any screen was perhaps the most convenient screen mirroring setup I've ever used.

So you're going to do your work on a low-rez screen mirror of the phone in portrait mode on a landscape LCD? That's going to be fun.
What's the mouse for? Iphones don't support that.

iToddlers are still in denial that phones with USB-C ports are good.
Yeah Samsung has had Dex for many years now but this whole being able to just connect your phone to other devices is new and a bit scary for them.

And Apple probably doesn't even follow the USB-C alternate mode standard so they would actually need a dongle - face saved.
Anonymous No.106560648
>>106560534
Is that how it works?
With Samsung Dex you can either mirror the phone screen (handy for app developers but otherwise useless) or use the phone as a track pad while the OS switches to the screen's native aspect ratio and shows a desktop environment rather than the Android layout.

That already exists though. For how small it is, it'd beg the question as to why you'd plug your phone in to that. Even if you could let the computer utilize the phone's processor power, it'd be too minor to make a difference and wouldn't be necessary for what a miniPC is supposed to do: be a compact low power unit for basic tasks. What benefit would letting the phone's processor even do, run a youtube stream better?

So the lapdock was basically a low-end ARM Linux shitbox, that probably didn't even actually need the phone to run? That's probably part of the reason why it was so expensive.

When the original iPhone was introduced it was noted that the OS shared foundations with OSX. So the idea of it (or any smartphone,) becoming the basis of a personal computer (if even netbook grade,) is a natural thought progression.
