apple's battery packs do not do wasteful trickle charging.

https://daringfireball.net/linked/2023/09/16/magsafe-battery-pack-and-duo-charger
>Apple’s MagSafe Battery Pack is far better than the third-party ones I’ve tried (including two decent ones from Anker). Apple’s isn’t the biggest, but it’s the best because it’s the smartest. It negotiates intelligently with the iPhone when connected and doesn’t waste energy charging the iPhone past 80 percent or so. You can feel the difference in efficiency by heat alone. Third-party inductive battery packs get quite warm; Apple’s doesn’t. Also, the third-party ones seem to all be “magnetic”, not officially “MagSafe”—Apple’s sticks better too.

Some electric cars do that.
Tesla even had a model where you could buy a software "battery upgrade" that unlocked the spare capacity.

The downside is you can never use that extra 20%.
Charging to full capacity while bad for the battery might be worth it in some cases especially when the battery has already degraded and you're just squeezing the last bit of usefulness out before replacing it.

Exactly.
It's a status symbol and this is all that really matters.

Apple will even sell a special shoulder strap so you can have it out on display for all to see all the time and not have to hide it in your pocket.
Which is ironic because by never putting it in your pocket the thinness matters even less.

apple specifically moved the production for u.s.-bound iphones to india to circumvent the looming china tariffs. first few batches for the u.s. will be made in india.
now with the india tariffs being higher than the current china tariffs, it's anyone's guess where the later batches will be sourced from. tim apple also successfully kissed the ring, so apple got some exceptions.

Every modern android phone with good power bank knows how to negotiate exact power level, do bypass, start an stop at specific points etc.
Though it is hard to find a battery that is both magnetic and supports android-specific power negotiation protocols.

I have magnetic case on a S22 Ultra and magnetic rings attached to samsung original wireless batteries, as well as Anker magnetic battery/stand combo and they work perfectly with no wasted power.
Previously I tried orico, baseus, belkin, ugreen and a few local rebrands of chinese batteries and chargers and none worked properly. Some keep blasting after phone is charged, some flipflop between zero and full power every second causing unnecessary heat, some can't automatically turn on after turning off at full charge, or some combinations of the above issues.
