Are new computer monitors too bright, or am I just developing sensory autism? I'm currently using my fucking VA panel on 0% brightness because it's too much. Part of me wants an OLED, but it might burn a hole through my skull.
I just bought - coincidentally - a 32" LG panel, and it's brighter at 30% than the monitor I'd been using for a decade was at 100. So yeah it's mostly overkill unless you're always in a bright room. Although it can be nice with some media for extra immersion. >Part of me wants an OLED, but it might burn a hole through my skull.
OLEDs are actually dimmer than other panel types, so your concern is misplaced. Miniled is the one that vaporizes your eyes.

take a picture of your monitor at 0% brightness. this is retarded.
oleds get damaged if you move them above their standard brightness (very dim) so it would be a good product for this made up case you came up with to talk about oled

If anything they are getting dim to comply with energy "efficiency" norms.
My LG TV for example is just as bright at 100% as the previous model at 100%.
But at the default 50% setting it's much dimmer.
ie: they just widen the scale to make 0% extremely dim but keep 100% the same.

It's possible it lost brightness over the years.
Especially if it was still CCFL back-lit.
>it's mostly overkill unless you're always in a bright room.
Or if you have a window behind you.
In my office half the screens face the windows and they cannot be bright enough.

oled is just bad tech but you might be able to get a decent lifespan out of one if you are using low brightness. like 3 years without getting burn in instead of the usual 1.

WLED >>106558837
Brightness-wise HDR just means you can have a really dim pixel and a miniature sun displayed at the same time. Does fuck all outside of content that explicitly supports it, and you can simply just not turn it on ever.

You bought a fucking gaming monitor, what did you expect. They're not designed to do anything well, they're the slop of display technology.
I exclusively use used Eizo displays for my desktop and a CRT for games.
